Anyone running LED or HID headlights high/low beam?

Recommended Posts

I have a 2017 FFH and wondering if anyone is using LEDs or HIDs for the low beam protector? What brand, wattage, and how does it look? I’ve been doing research about the projector and from what I’ve read the HID bulbs don’t fair to well as far as light output from a pojector lense. Any feedback and input would be greatly appreciated.

I've a '14 FFH and have been wanting to put LED's into my low and hi beams.  Was hoping to find someone else that had done so?

i looked into it because when purchasing my car was doing night time deliveries.

Opted not to do so because of 2 things: 1. most are only dual direction, meaning the led's only shine in two directions casting the light in a smaller angle from each side rendering the "blindspots" lower in light. This doesnt improve or degrades the output from the lens. 2. most have a heatsinks which cause the base to protrude to far and you cant reinstall the waterproof cover. If you leave it off, the headlight accumulates condenation inside and besides being unwanted, looks shit.

I appreciate the reply,  I didn't realize that the LED's actually limit the light foot print so to speak. I should have thought of that. I guess getting older and chasing prostrate cancer for the past seven years has not helped me much.  Have kept the Sylvania Ultra bulbs but they don't really last to long. For the brightness of them its worth it to me.  Now my question is, are any of the newer FFH's with factory LED's in the headlamp pods compatible with our '14's?  Thank you for the info, and have a Happy New Year and be Safe making it into 2021 :).  OBTW, as much as I love red, your car has a really attractive color to it.  I like it.  ?

i would doubt it from previous experience that they could just be switched out but could be 100% wrong. I know manufacturers like to slightly amend dimensions as to make them incompatible with other models.

look over on 2gfusion.com i think its called. those guys like to mod and there may be posts relating to what you are asking.

I just installed Sylvania H11 (low beam) LED's. They seem to have at least the same beam as the originals with, according to a site that measured, a 25% higher light output. The light is also more white (6000K), so it matches the LED DRL's. They fit fine, including the heat sync, and allow the dust covers to go on.

Ignore all the videos and whatever about having to remove the bumper, etc. Just remove the dust cover, twist the old bulb CCW, and it comes out. Plug in the new one (has a cable attached to make it easier), and work it back in place. Turn clockwise until it locks. Should not take longer than about 10 minutes per side (after some cursing and swearing). I found that using a needle nose plyer on the heat shield helped locking them in place.

Now to hope they last longer than SilverStars.
