Pickflip113 Report post Posted February 20, 2018 I just bought this 2010 FFH with 120k miles. There's an engine light p2418 which is evap code (switching control open) I'm unsure if this is related. My instinct is that it's separate to the following: At a steady pace, cruise control or not, the engine will fluctuate 100rpms or so steadily once every second. This results in a really subtle jerking motion. My other research leads me to believe the throttle body is failing. I'm not a car guy but if that's what it is, it's easy enough to replace. So is it the same throttle body as non-hybrid fusions? Should I just replace it or would that be a waste of money and I should let a mechanic sort the problem out and replace/fix the correct issue? There's also a recall/extended warranty on those but running my vin number didn't show any recalls AND the page I read on the recall said that the hybrids weren't included in the extended warranty. There's only bits and pieces of info so it's hard to know what to do. Any help is appreciated immensely. I am in a dark place after spending more money on a car than I ever have that already has something wrong with it.
murphy Report post Posted February 20, 2018 The engine in a hybrid is nothing like the engine in the standard car. Standard car engines use the Otto cycle. The hybrid engine uses the Atkinson cycle. There is no connection between the accelerator pedal and the engine. The accelerator pedal is two potentiometers connected to the computer. The computer controls the engine RPM and it is not related to the vehicle speed. The computer tries to keep the engine rpm at the most efficient setting. Vehicle speed is controlled by the electric motor. This system can't be analyzed without the tools that connect to the computer. Here is the discussion of P2048. https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/p2418-obd-ii-trouble-code-evap-switching-valve-control-circuit-open-by-logan-utsman The previous owner probably tried to cram as much fuel into the tank as he could. The result is probably a destroyed charcoal canister. If this system is not working properly it can definitely affect the engine. This is not a fix it in your driveway car. Pickflip113 Report post Posted February 20, 2018 Thanks for your reply. Of course the guy could have been lying, but he said he had the codes ran and then they checked the canister to make sure that wasn't the problem. There's also another thread in this forum saying pretty much the exact same thing and that a new throttle body fixed it. I'm not saying you're wrong, just providing more info. Thanks again. Pickflip113 Report post Posted February 20, 2018 Also, one of the replies said the throttle body's are the same.
lolder Report post Posted February 20, 2018 The throttle bodies get carboned up but they stick closed with very little power available and "wrench" warning lights. They can be cleaned but if you're paying for the labor it's cheaper to replace them. It's very accessible if you have the skills to clean it yourself. Otherwise you'll have to take it to a Ford dealer. You can't do much work on these yourself and they only made 70,000 of them and they have been very reliable so even the Ford dealers don't have much experience with them. You'll have to fix whatever's causing the DTC codes first. 1 Pickflip113 reacted to this
Pickflip113 Report post Posted February 20, 2018 Believe me guys I really appreciate anyone taking the time to reply. Lolder what I've seen through my uneducated research is that the issue you are speaking of with the low power and the wrench icon is related to the same issue I'm having. I know he doesn't talk about fusion but he speaks both about the issue you describee and the issue I'm having in the same breath.
