Leather seat worn on 2015 FFH

Recommended Posts

Today I cleaned the driver and passenger seats with Wolfgang leather cleaner, but what I had thought was soil on the driver seat didn't disappear. I think the leather is damaged. It's on the left side (outside) edge of the seat. The car has 42,000 miles. Has anyone else had this happen? Suggestions on fixing it?

yep, something similar, except mine has black leather. It appears that the leather is not very good quality. I had some car detailer use some "black leather stain" ( not sure what exactly he used), but it worked well. After about one year, it has worn off, so I will have to "stain" it again. I dont know if they make a product in white.

Glad it worked for you. It lots easier to stain/dye something to black than a dark something back to light tan :-)

mwr, I just looked on Amazon and saw a bunch of products that are supposed to restore the color on leather seats/furniture. Just search under "leather seat color restorer". They appear to be something like a dye that is not supposed to rub off onto your clothing and they make it in many different colors including white. I can't vouch for any since I am not sure what the guy used on my car. If you do find a good product, post the name, because I have that spot on my seat that needs to be redone. I will post also if I find a good product.

Thanks! I'll do that search. And of course post if I use something.

Early this week I took the car to a local shoe-and-leather repair shop. The shop owner said the leather was fine, just the color had worn off. He said he could match the color and that it would take about a half hour to dry and then I could drive it away. I have an appointment at 4:00 pm this Saturday. The car now has almost 60K miles and, of course, the wear is now worse. I'll post a pic of the "after" version after it's fixed.

Here's the "after" pic. I'd say the new color is more "yellow" than the original seat color, but maybe that's the best he (or his eyes) could do. I think I'll stop by next week and see what he thinks. He only charged me $10. Also, I cleaned the leather seat but I see it needs more cleaning near the edge of the new color; I can do that.

Looks like the color is a little off but it looks much better than before. It will be interesting to see how well it holds up.
