Ford Navigation Showing Traffic flows

Recommended Posts

Has anyone else with the built in navigation noticed that it has been showing the movement or non-movement of traffic with Green/Yellow/Red lines on the map in the same way that Google Maps Navigation does? I don't know when this started. I am not paying for any services from Ford or Sirius at the moment.

This is not a complaint or anything, just a curious question.

Sync services does not provide traffic data to the maps. That data comes from Sirius. Sirius will occasionally "turn it on" for a free trial period to try to convince you that it's so good that you should pay to continue. But if you don't, soon enough it will disappear again.

Wrong. Sync Services does provide traffic data to the maps if you subscribe to it. From Ford Owner site:

SYNC® Services is a subscription service available to owners with SYNC with MyFord Touch® that puts 411 Business Search, turn-by-turn directions, news, traffic, weather, sports, and more within reach of your voice.27,129

Personalize your SYNC Services

SYNC Services offers audible travel information on demand. If SYNC Services can't fulfill your request for directions or 411 Business Search, you'll have the option of using Operator Assist service.64

You can personalize SYNC Services by registering an account and setting up your favorites.

When you access SYNC Services, a phone call is placed to an automated system. Once connected, follow the prompts and speak your selections. You don’t need to press the Voice button every time before speaking (there are a few exceptions—see the section on SYNC Services voice commands in Exploring Information by voice.)

In vehicles with optional SD Card Navigation system, 411 Business Search and Directions integrate with the navigation system.

SYNC Service provides turn by turn directions if you don't have navigation. It does not provide the traffic data if you have navigation that the OP is talking about. That comes only from Sirius. You are wrong as you didn't read what you copied and pasted. "SYNC Services offers audible travel information on demand." Keyword is audible.

I do not pay for Sirius and my car has always had the traffic info on the maps. As quoted above In vehicles with optional SD Card Navigation system, 411 Business Search and Directions integrate with the navigation system. If Sync services isn't providing this info on my map and Sirius isn't providing this. Where is it coming from?

EDIT:

OK, I went and took a closer look at my screen. It does say Sirius travel link. I get movies, gas prices etc. so I must be reading the integrate with the navigation system wrong for sync services, but again, I'm not paying for this service so not sure why I'm still getting this servie after the 6 month free trial.

I believe starting with 2015 vehicles, you get Sirius Travel link for 5 years too.

The "integrate with the navigation system" means that when it sends directions, it automatically sets it as a destination in the nav system, then the nav system takes over.

Just getting used to the Nav on my 2014, bought it a month ago. There are many areas out in the country where the map shows I am driving on no road at all, even though the name of the road is displayed in the text box below the map. These are paved roads, not some small gravel road. Is that supposed to be that way? Is there a way to show the road?

Also, mostly unrelated to Nav, is there any real reason to sign up for Ford Sync? One thing I have noticed is it won't let me create a vehicle health report. Not sure that is really worth it, I can pull codes with the Torque app if needed. Any other reason why I might want it?

There is currently a Sirius 2-week (or so) free period, I think it ends right after Labor Day and your trafficlink displays will disappear again, unless you decide that you liked it so much that you want to subscribe (i,e,. the objective of the sporadic trial periods).

Are you zoomed in? The more you zoom in the more detail is shown.

Yeah, I'm getting the Radio stations for the free two weeks, but as thrasher086 pointed out, my car gets Sirius Travel link for 5 years included at no charge which is why I'm getting the traffic displayed on the maps.
