ICE Details

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Has anyone got any technical info about the internal combustion engine?

I'm interested in whether it has a timing belt or a chain, torque and power curves, stuff like that.

Thank you.

It probably has a chain unless the maintenance guide calls for a belt replacement at a higher mileage. Horsepower and torque are low for the displacement because of the Atkinson cycle operation. I think the HP is 146.

I saw 142 HP as the spec for the 2.0L Atkinson cycle engine. I've not been able to find a power curve for the engine. It would have to be dyno tested outside of the vehicle otherwise the hybrid powertrain would screw up the results since the ICE cannot be isolated while in the vehicle.

If it's a version of the Duratec engine family, it'll have a chain. Variable intake valve timing, fixed exhaust valve timing. Port injection.

Thanks, Jan. I think this graph applies to the car as a whole, meaning both the engine and the electric motor together. It would be interesting to see separate graphs, one for the engine and one for the electric motor, to understand how they combine into this one. But I'm not sure if Ford have ever published such info. Probably not. ;(
