usererror Report post Posted February 8, 2017 Hi Folks, long time lurker since I bought my 2015 Fusion. I have my first issue with the car that has prompted a trip to the dealership. When water gets behind my side mirrors they act erratically when trying to find their "parked" position for the memorized Driver 1 or Driver 2 settings. It has gotten progressively worse over the last 12 months. If I take the car to a car wash, park, dry the car off, and then get back in with, the mirrors go nuts. It also happens ever driving through severe rain weather. I took it in this morning after dousing the mirrors with a gallon of water each, to make sure the dealer would see the behavior. They have a call into Ford about what to do next and are waiting to hear back. I am just over 30,000 miles into my warranty. The service manager mentioned something about Ford having a 'record' of wet connection issues, but they were not specific to my VIN number. I'm not sure what that means. I saw another post here where they have seen their mirrors pointed down after being parked but that's not the same as mine. If I unlock the car with my Fob for Driver 1 or Driver 2 after a wet environment pass through it is anyone's guess which way the mirrors will be pointing. I have a video of the mirror behavior but I haven't downloaded it off my phone yet. If anyone wants me to post it, I'll download it.
usererror Report post Posted May 9, 2017 Following up on this. Ford has replaced the mirror motor after they were able to replicate it at the dealership. However, when I washed the car in my driveway the other day, I soaked the mirror and it went back to its old behavior. It seems that these mirror motors are just not designed for large amounts of water. I probably won't bother taking it back again.
murphy Report post Posted May 9, 2017 Are you washing the car with the fob in your pocket? When water is sprayed on the door handles the sensor detects it as your hand on the door handle and the car executes whatever functions are set up for the fob. Put the fob out of range of the car to see if that solves the problem.
usererror Report post Posted May 9, 2017 (edited) Are you washing the car with the fob in your pocket? Put the fob out of range of the car to see if that solves the problem.No. It doesn't have anything to do with the fob being in your pocket while washing the car. The problem occurs after the mirror interior gets soaked with water, and persists for 12-24 hours after or until the mirror interior dries out. After that everything returns to normal. But when it's acting up it goes berzerk when Driver 1/Driver 2 memory positions are applied whether when the FOB is detected or if push 1/2/3 on the driver door. Here's a video of it occurring: https://youtu.be/8yrv-T5fql0 Edited May 9, 2017 by usererror
