usererror Report post Posted September 30, 2016 This summer I started to notice that when I have my windows down and just coasting at very low speeds with a wall or building next to me I can hear what sounds like a metal rubbing noise. I took a look at my rotors through the wheels and I don't see any obvious putting or scarring but do others hear this as well? I suppose it keeps people on the sidewalks aware that a Hybrid is near since I'm not completely in stealth mode... Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

FernMTL Report post Posted October 1, 2016 (edited) The rear bake calipers are set up that your pads are close to the disks. It's efficient for braking, as it respond right away, but for a lot of owner, you can hear a metal rubbing sound now and then. That happens when rust spots build up on your disks. Timewellspent Report post Posted October 4, 2016 I hear this same sound on my Fusion Energi, Just like you said, I only hear it when windows down (no a/c) and passing parked cars or wall. I will test it without the A/C running, but I'm 99% sure it's just the pads are so close to those rotors. I only thought I would hear it when the brake pads were getting really close to the 'bare metal'. Our Escape doesn't have rear disc brakes since it's the previous generation but I'll have to see if I notice it on the fronts when I drive down our main street. compnurd Report post Posted November 30, 2016 I heard this sound forever. Could never figure it out. Well today I did. Changed out the rear pads and rotors. Passenger tire was at 4mm. Driver was almost bare. Dealer thinks a caliper pin wasn't sliding properly . Lubed everything up and replaced. Sound is gone! Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
