Thumping Tires on New FFH

Recommended Posts

On the drive home with my new Fusion I noticed thumping tires at 60 mph and above. After 1400 miles the thumping is still there. When in for the power steering recall service this week I mentioned this problem to the Service Advisor. He said that tires develop a "hard spot" after sitting on the lot for extended periods of time and that usually goes away with regular driving. He suggested I bring it in for them to look at. Any suggestions about what I should be alert about? I'm about to take a 1500 mile trip and don't want any surprises.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

The thumping should have gone away by now. Take it to the dealer for warranty repair.

Thanks lolder! Good advice. I took the car in yesterday and they did "road force" balancing and found two tires that couldn't be brought into spec. These two were replaced under warranty and the Chris now smooth as silk. Thanks again.

I wish I was as lucky. I have a 2004 Avalon that up until about 5 years ago was smooth as silk. It now has a slight vibration like an unbalance at about 65 mph that no amount of balancing, tire rotation and new tires has fixed. It may be in the drive axles but I don't know how to check that cheaply. I don't use it much on the highway so it's what it is.
