LechesxD Report post Posted November 23, 2015 I purchased a used 2013 Ford Fusion hybrid about 2 weeks ago and I'm not to sure on how the battery charging is. I'm not sure if this is normal but after I start my car my battery seems to be low. Therefore, I run on gas for a while until it charges back up.sometimes it can take a while. I live in a area with a lot of stop sign so I normally am on Ev. At night when I park my car the Ev seems to be charged up but in the morning when I start the car it is low and the engine turns on. I'm not sure if this is normal or a problem with the battery. Also when I remove my key my music play for about 20 seconds and it then tells me I need to save energy and it turn off. I'm not sure if that is normal either. I did purchase an extended warranty so taking it to the dealer won't be a problem, I just wanted to know if these things were normal. dysert Report post Posted November 23, 2015 Doesn't sound normal to me. Make use of your extended warranty and have it checked out.
murphy Report post Posted November 23, 2015 The hybrid tries to keep the battery at 50%. If the battery is at 100% it is impossible to recover energy during regen braking. Regen braking can't work if the battery is at 100%. The car knows what is best for the battery. Do not try to change the way it works.

Changes in HVB temperature when the car is turned off can impact that estimate. Over the course of a drive the car tracks the energy going in & out of the HVB and this data is used to estimate the SOC. When the car is off & the HVB rests, the car can reassess the voltage & make a more accurate measurement of SOC. Also when I remove my key my music play for about 20 seconds and it then tells me I need to save energy and it turn off. I'm not sure if that is normal either. You can request that the dealer load test the 12V battery. If it needs replacing it may not be covered by your extended warranty. Ours was replaced during the 3/36 b2b period, outside of that period it may not be covered under warranty. 1 GrySql reacted to this

Have you spoken with your dealer about your concerns? Please let me know, along with your mileage. Meagan
58Desoto Report post Posted October 10, 2016 Mine used to do that until i turned EV+ off. that way it would run my HVB down too low when i got home so the next day it wouldn't start the ICE right away
lolder Report post Posted October 10, 2016 That's weird. The HVB can never be lowered to the point it won't start the ICE. What do you mean by "right away"? The ICE sometimes doesn't start until the car is moved.
58Desoto Report post Posted October 19, 2016 when my HVB was too low the ICE would start up as soon as the key was turned. Even before the car was put into gear. The shifting into low at first ICE startup doubled my short mileage mpg. The 2 mile round trip to the store now returns 40 mpg.
lolder Report post Posted October 19, 2016 Shifting into low should not increase mileage.
