Luron Report post Posted November 12, 2015 Hi, everyone.I am new to hybrid vehicle and I just bought a 2016 Fusion SE hybrid. After 5 days of driving (it has over 350 miles on it now), I have never noticed the battery was fully charged. Is this normal? It went above 3/4 at some points but never 100%.Thanks in advance for your input.
murphy Report post Posted November 13, 2015 It is almost never fully charged. There has to be room in the battery to store the power from regenerative braking. The computer tries to hold it around 50%.
Luron Report post Posted November 13, 2015 Thank you, Murphy. 50% full most of the time when driving.
Texasota Report post Posted November 13, 2015 The only time I typically see the battery graphic indicate fully charged is when descending a very long grade (e.g. mountain driving) or exiting a highway or interstate when I am able to obtain a lot of regenerative braking. BoatDrinksQ5 Report post Posted November 13, 2015 You are only going to get high battery levels generally from coasting down hill and extended braking. I have gotten to 90-100% on the gauge quite a few times, often coincides with periods of higher battery level on a freeway... followed by a long exit ramp with good braking that tops it off. talmy Report post Posted November 13, 2015 Being nominally at 50% leaves room to store excess energy as well as provide energy. This will give optimal use under most driving conditions.
