Winter Mileage and Regenerative Braking Questions
randylb replied to randylb's topic in General Discussion
That's a relief to hear, I was thinking that something might be wrong with my regen braking.... -
Two winter questions: 1. Now that it has gotten cold in the midwest my mileage has plummeted. Driving the same routes that got me 42mpg average in the summer I've dropped all the way to around 31mpg. Some trips are short and I know that is hurting because EV doesn't start until over about 2 miles. I know it's even going to get worse when temps drop from the 30's to 0. Longer trips, 5 - 10 miles plus and I get good mileage but not enough to bring the averages up. Seems like averages go down very quickly and very very slow to come back up, if at all. Anybody else in the same boat??? 2. Also since it got cold my regenerative braking does not activate for the first several stops when cold then starts working normally. I find that odd, seems to be related to the engine warming up but I wouldn't think regen braking should be turned off until a certain temperature. Anybody else having this issue??? Thanks!!!

I got one of those soft eye glasses cleaning cloths from my eye doctor that I use, they even come in different colors and patterns.... My Nav screen is a fingerprint magnet, I keep the lens cloth folded up in that little open compartment below the climate control buttons so it's alway handy, does a great job of cleaning the screen without using any liquids, been using the same cloth almost daily now for 6 months... color i picked even matches the car so you don't even notice it there....

My experience was just the opposite.... the retard at Walmart wouldn't touch it even though i told him i wouldn't hold them responsible, he was a total jerk.... went to my local hardware (not chain) store and the kid dug right into it without question.... works fine but i really don't like this key, it's bigger, if i didn't need other keys on my keychain it would be ok by itself.... i'll just save mine for a backup....

The only major complaint I have about my hybird is that we have a key at all, and especially that we have to turn it to "start" like we're starting a regular car!!! The engineers dropped the ball on that one, we should just have a On/Off button and a keyfob like the "other" brands.... walk up to car with your FOB in your pocket and it unlocks, get in and push the On button, I like that idea....

Yes, you need to put the key in the ignition and turn it to run otherwise as soon as you depress the brake pedal to put the car in gear it will shut off.... one other thing is it will not preheat/precool the interior unless you have the climate control system turned on when you leave the car....

I think the Ford engineers went through as much weight and drag reductions as reasonable in designing the Fusion, after all they wanted to put out a car with the highest mileage possible... if they could have done something to make the rated mileage 42 instead of 41 and still put out a great car they would have done it.... you start taking little things away like floor mats and you aren't going to make any difference except ruining your carpet.... want to reduce weight, well, as a pilot we often carry only as much fuel as necessary, plus a good reserve of course, because fuel is heavy at about 6 pounds per gallon (6.8 for Jet-A)... so don't fill up your tank and you'll reduce your weight more than if you bugger up your car.... but i think that is even silly in a car.... or go on a diet.... or maybe buy a Prius instead as it gets better mileage... actually, you will affect your mileage more by the way you're driving than anything else.... leave the car alone and enjoy it.... just my 2 cents....

Wow, thanks for your instructions.... I bought this key a few weeks ago but haven't had the time to program it yet, really glad you posted the correct way to do this, you saved me the pain of figuring out the instruction that came with the key.... Only one thing I had trouble with, took my keys to my local Walmart to get the key cut and they wouldn't touch it, they ranted about how it wasn't a factory key, they were liable, probably wouldn't work, etc... I told them I would take full responsibility and they weren't liable but the guy wouldn't budge, actually 2 of them.... guess that's what you get at Walmart, went to my local hardware store where a high school kid burned off a perfect copy using the usual old fashioned manual key cutting maching.... cost me a whole 60 cents.... quickly programmed the new remote in just a few minutes following your instructions.... now i'm wondering if I don't use this key but just keep it for a spare, and i lose one of my original keys, can this third party key be used as one of the two required to program another new one???

You could be right lolder, I found in another forum that they may have stopped hiding the sticker on 2010 Fusions..... On 2009 and previous Fusions the code is on a sticker above the brake pedal by the fuse box on a module, not easily found as you have to lay on your back with your head under the dash but it's there.... i'll post if I find any other solution.... I guess it's not a big deal anyway, I can't recall ever using the keypad on any previous Ford or Lincoln's that i have owned.... Thanks....

Of if somebody could post something that we don't already know that would be very helpful and appreciated. Like, perhaps, where is the code sticker hidden in the car, that was the question!!!! Maybe a technicaian could chime in here. Please, no more basic useless dribble.

thanks for the replies guys but I KNOW THAT IT IS ON THE SUPPLIED CARD THAT I DON'T HAVE, and please don't tell me that I should have read the manual, that is sooooooooo basic.... you are correct Moosehead, the factory puts it on a tag somewhere in the car, they have on all the Lincolns and Fords that I have owned over the years dating back to the mid 90's, and it is in all the Fusions through 2009, they have moved the location in 2010, that's what I want to know.... the dealer usually wants around $100 to tell you what the code is because they know where to get it.... any help would be appreciated....

Does anybody know where to find the keypad code for a 2010 Fusion Hybrid??? I'm not looking for the answer "go to the dealer", I know the code is somewhere in the car, on 2008 and 2009 fusions it is under the dash above the fuse panel on the drivers side but not on the 2010 Hybrid. I bought my Fusion slightly used and the previous owner cannot find the card that has the code on it.... Thanks!!!!
