Uh, yea that's the way it is on the initial HDD versions. I have a 2010 Fusion with the HDD and you just have to purchase a new DVD from Navteq for $199, and it comes with instructions with how to install it. Basically just insert the DVD and let it go. AFter a while, you can turn the car off and it will continue on it's own, it takes a couple hours to complete but there's nothing to do other than wait. Pretty simple process. Once it's done, the HDD is updated and the DVD can be stored away. Unfortunatly I don't "think" it can be used for multiple cars as when you order it you have to tell Navteq the application number of your unique NAV then they send you a unique DVD for your car with your software lisence on it. Apparently it will only work on that navigation unit and not any other one. Cheers... D.
