Won't run in EV mode, ICE kicks in immediately.

I tried it again last night and it seems to be back to normal so I think you are right about the reconditioning. Although in the past when it went through the reconditioning cycle, I recall that it made a lot of clicking noises from behind the back seat. I didn't hear that this time but I'm not the only one who drives the car. -
Late reply but for future reference I paid $320 to have the front bearing replaced, $80 for the bearing (hub was good), $240 labor. This was a local independent shop that I trust (he's my neighbor).

I don't believe so. I've gone through 3 drive cycles and the HVB is at full charge. Might try the battery age reset again. -

Just a quick update, I reset the battery age back to 0 years about 15 months ago. Things seemed OK for a while and any reduced MPG I noticed I attributed to letting my teenager drive the car on a regular basis. The past several months my fuel economy has been down around 33MPG. No problem going into EV mode and staying there up to 47 MPH with a light foot. Now today the car will not go into EV mode at all! Not at idle, not in Park, not in Neutral, nothing. The ICE is on 100% of the time and seems to idle pretty high, around 100RPM. I'm at a loss for what to look at and have zero confidence in my local Ford service department. -

Good point Paul. I performed the HVB age reset to 0 year a few weeks ago and I am back to 41.1 mpg. Able to stay in EV mode now for a considerably longer time/distance. -

I would encourage everyone here to complete this form: https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/? Your Vehicle's Make Model and Model Year: FORD FUSION HYBRID 2010Note: Your VIN, make, model, and year are all protected under the Privacy Act.What part of your car was affected? Engine, Fuel/Propulsion System, Power TrainWhat happened? The vehicle will no longer operate in electric mode. This is a major safety concern since there is no assist from the high-voltage battery powered electric drive motor. Upon accelerating from a dead stop, there is a significant lag before the ICE kicks in and provides enough power to move the vehicle. When did this happen? 12/07/2018Was there a Crash? FYI, went over to another Ford Dealer Service Dept on my lunch break and spoke with the Service Advisor about this. I was told, "I've never heard of that before. Bring it in and we can diagnose it for $145". These guys are useless! -

I reached out to the Ford Dealer Service Advisor that helped Rodney and here's what he told me. "What we have done is to reset the vehicle to “1 Year” in the personality settings. This has to be done with the Ford scan tool. I hope this helps. If you need any more information let me know." -

That's great Rodney! Did they tell you what the technical procedure was called or provide any kind of service bulletin number? -

They told me that any additional diagnosis would be my responsibility. Ford is trying to wash their hands of this, hoping we all just go away. Anyone here on Twitter, I encourage you to tweet @FordService and complain, it will probably fall on deaf ears but you never know. -

Here's an interesting product. It's used to rebalance the HVB on hybrid vehicles. They don't specifically mention a unit for the Ford Fusion but there is some decent information on the need for this type of reconditioning. https://hybridautomotive.com/ BTW, I contacted Ford Customer Care the other day and was told to take my Fusion to another Ford dealer for a second opinion after being told it was a "normal characteristic of vehicle". -

@mmtphoto What is the feature of the Autel MD 808 that performs the High Voltage Battery rebalancing? I scanned the online user's manual and it appears the only battery features are related to the 12v battery. -

I've noticed a very minor MPG improvement since the weather is beginning to warm up. 38 MPG vs 37 MPG in cooler temps. Still not the same as the 41 MPG I was averaging before without even trying. If I worked at it (hypermiling) I could get 46 MPG. -

I only noticed the battery reconditioning 2 or 3 times since I've owned it. The most recent was probably a couple years ago and under 60k miles. The engine was run constantly while driving and no EV mode at all. Also it would make these clicking noises from under the back seat. -

I replaced the 12v battery last year. Didn't make any difference. It was 8+ years old so was about time. The wrench light at highway speed/warm temps is a separate issue from hybrid battery problem. There's a TSB that I had my dealer apply, I have not had that problem since but it has been pretty cool here in CA. The EV mode seems to be getting worse. It's almost impossible for me to stay in EV mode for more than a few seconds. My fuel econony is at about 38MPG but it usually goes down a little in winter. -

Just a quick update on EV/ICE mode after commuting for several weeks now. Still same behavior, seldom in EV mode unless coasting for short periods or going down hill. That said, my MPG doesn't seem to be suffering much. I'm getting exactly 40mpg with a 36 mile commute each way, about 85% highway, 15% stop and go. So while the car drives differently the fuel economy is about the same as before. -

Just picked up the Fusion. They reported, "Normal characteristic from vehicle. No problem found." Car is driving the same, any load at all and the ICE kicks in. Not thrilled about this but probably have no recourse. This dealerships service department is the worst I've ever experienced. Unfortunately it's super convenient and the only game in town. Also had them look into TSB 11-7-31 which was mentioned by another member in a different post. They said they applied a software update to the PCM. I guess I'll just have to wait and see if the wrench lite comes on again, although it only happened a few times on really hot days and we're not seeing many of those right now. They charged me $149 for this. Kind of a rip-off if you ask me. I'll continue to monitor the fuel economy and report back any findings. Curious to see how the battery "rebalancing" works out for @hsk8te2006, please keep us posted. -

Thanks for the update, great information to have. Sorry about the $407 but I suppose it's better than the alternative. My dealer service department didn't get to my car yesterday, waiting for a phone call now. -

I did not follow any specific storage instructions, however the car was started periodically and moved around from the street, driveway, garage... Never drove it more than a 100ft but I did let it idle for at least 10 minutes and cycled through both the A/C and heat. Here's the part from the owner's manual. Low and high voltage battery – storage Your vehicle must be started and run for a minimum of 10 minutes once a month in order to maintain the high voltage battery charge. This will maintain the high voltage battery but it is not enough to maintain the low voltage (underhood) battery and additional low voltage (underhood) battery charging may be required after 60 days. If your vehicle is to be stored for 30 days or longer, the low voltage (underhood) battery negative terminal must be disconnected. Failure to do this could damage your vehicle’s batteries. -

I'm right at 100,000 miles on the odometer. It's at the dealer right now to fix the rattle under the dash that was not there prior to the airbag replacement. I'm wondering if something happened because I did not drive the car for nearly 6 months. Only started it a few times. -

Sorry for the double post, can't seem to find a way to delete one. -
Since I've got my '10 Fusion Hybrid back from the dealer (after the Takata airbag recall repair), I've noticed that it's impossible to run in EV mode unless I'm coasting to a stop or going downhill. Previously I could gradually accelerate to about 45 MPH using a very light foot and stay in EV mode the entire time, even cruising for a mile or so at that speed. My fuel economy is only down about 10%, 37 MPG vs. 40 MPG but it's frustrating to have the ICE kick in when it's unnecessary. Anyone else experience something similar?
