I just bought an 08 Fusion and am having difficulties with the MP3, as well. At first I couldn't hear anything, even though the car volumume was set to max. Then I realized that I could bring the ipod volume up and could hear something - although it wasn't incredibly loud. Also, the music sounded very distant, echo-y, and like things were playing on top of each other. I though perhaps the battery was running low on the ipod, but I can hear things just fine through the headsets when I unplug the ipod from the car. Any clues? I'm guessing this is something that the dealer needs to take a look at...
