Sensitivity of Keyless Entry Remote
fuzz-ion replied to fuzz-ion's topic in Alarms, Keys & Remote Start
Thanks for the replies. Guess I'll just keep being really careful! -
(Didn't know where to post this, but...) The remote (embedded in the key fob) for my 2008 Fusion is awfully sensitive and is prone to accidental presses that may unlock the car while, for example, it is parked in the driveway and I am in my house digging through my purse. Does anyone know of a way to reduce the sensitivity of the remotes, so that it only works within, say, 10 feet rather than 50? Or even a way to tell the car not to accept remote signals that are above a certain distance/below a certain signal strength?

Oh dear... I seem to have posted in the wrong place, and I don't know how to move the post to somewhere more relevant... Sorry!

Question for all y'all who track your fuel economy and/or use your trip computer (yes, I know it generally overestimates, but...). Has anyone identified their Fusion's "optimal speed" that provides the best fuel economy? I have a long road trip coming up in a few months and I intend to play around with the trip computer a bit to see if I can figure out at what cruising speed my Fusion performs most efficiently. Please, share your info: - Year, model, engine, transmission, whether your Fusion is FWD or AWD - MPG you get and what constant cruising speed you achieve it - Whether you use full gasoline or E10 (I've read here that the latter reduces efficiency) I'll post mine after my road trip. I'm almost expecting that everyone's cars will be different, but I wonder how different.

Considering getting some kind of rubber/vinyl floormats for my Fusion, particularly for when it rains or snows, to keep the water and dirt from getting onto the interior floor (or ultimately staining the stock floormats). I've thought about generic floormats (there's even one I can trim to whatever shape I want), but I'm concerned about them fitting well and staying put. I really like the way the stock floormats stay in one place, so I looked into the vinyl ones Ford sells for the Fusion aftermarket. But they're $79 (presumably for the set; the website is unclear). Anyone have these, and are they worth it? Any good alternatives (say, $15-25 at an auto parts store)?

Yes, I indeed paid attention. :read: I have always wondered if my car would fly if I put helium in the tires instead of atmosphere... hehe. :superhero:

Thanks for your answers. Good to know that they didn't just forget a part in Hermosillo. I will immediately cease and desist from topping off (actually I haven't topped off at all since that first time.) I didn't think about the gas tank bulging--I figured it was metal. (I did adjust the nozzle before topping off that time, btw.)

Thanks everybody for your replies! I think I'll aim for 36 psi.

My new Fusion SE has P205/60 R16 tires that say that the maximum inflation is 44 psi. The sticker in the driver's door says to inflate the tires to 34 psi. Which should I do? In the past I've gone by what the tires themselves say, and I usually feel a firmer ride with more air, but I wonder which is better for the car, handling, fuel economy, safety... Any thoughts?

So the first time I got gas for my new Fusion, I removed the gas cap and found that the opening for the gas tank was, well, open. That is to say, there is no circular metal flap that gets pushed aside when I insert the gas pump. Is this normal? Every other passenger car I have put gas into has a little spring-loaded circular metal flap that is visible upon unscrewing the gas cap. Possibly related: that first time I got gas, the pump clicked off, and I usually top it off a click or two to account for the gas foaming up in the tank. Well, I did so and as soon as I started pumping a wee bit more gas in, the :censored: thing overflowed. Ever since I've been a little gun-shy in putting any gas in after it automatically shuts off, but I wonder if maybe that gas pump I used that day was at fault, not the car...?
