I apologize in advance for not being a Fusion owner (I have an 08 Explorer) but this is the first time I saw something about the issue I am having. I have been experiencing the same thing...I get a "USB Removed" message since the day I bought the truck (2 months ago). I have been using iPod (G5 30GB video iPod) revision 1.2.2 (have not tried with 1.2.3) using the Apple supplied cable. What is interesting is that it does not happen every time. It occurs about 80% of the time anywhere between 10 an 30 seconds after I connect. Every once in a while it is fine. I have tried to connect several different ways with no luck (iPod powered off, already playing, in shuffle mode, locked,...). I have scoured the web and have found nothing. I have gotten to the point where I don't even bring my iPod with me anymore because this is so frustrating (enjoying the 6 free months of Sirius).
