Additional fuel consumption when switching from EV to ICE?
snowmonster replied to Ryan's topic in Fuel Mileage
I thought about this today while driving my 140 miles round trip on state highways averaging around 60 mph most of the time. Spent some time at 60 mph playing around with EV and watching the instantaneous MPG (Empower mode). Yeah, you gain a lot by driving in EV mode initially but then your instantaneous MPG tanks into the 20 range as it starts recharging the battery once the ICE kicks back in. I'm not sure you gain anything? The battery indicator did seem to indicate there was a battery "boost" or down-arrow for the ICE at times while the ICE was running and my net average never seemed to fluctuate one way or the other once the EV/battery recharge cycle was done. It seemed that the instantaneous MPG always stayed around 40 mpg if I never entered EV mode. -
I picked up my 2014 HyTi just over 1 month ago and took my first trip on state highways and Interstates today. I have already been impressed with the in-town MPG but today was cool. I initially went the state highway route to stay around a constant 60 mph. On the way home, I added in a 15 mile stretch of Interstate at 75-78 mph and it didn't seem to adversely affect my mpg. I got 41.7 mpg on the state highways going there and got 41.2 mpg on the way back in 75 degree temps with the A/C set to about 71/72 degrees. I really thought the Interstate miles would have killed the average but it wasn't bad. It should be noted that I used to drive a 4.4 liter V8 BMW 750Li so this mileage was considerably better than the 16-17 mpg I would have gotten. The best part was the adaptive cruise control. Easter weekend (or Sundays in general) from Indianapolis towards Chicago isn't fun to drive in at times. The ACC did a fantastic job of keeping reasonable following distances and varying speeds as needed. I just kept my foot over the brake (just in case) and everything was much less stressful than normal.

Just got a new '14 HyTi. Is there any way to change the upper right hand initial Nav screen to show a smaller map instead of the lame compass and street name? Thanks!

What a great trick! My 2.6 mile AM drive to drop my daughter off at her school and then go to work normally yields about 25 to 30 mpg. With the same weather conditions this AM, I got 50.6 with the engine running a whole lot less!

Couldn't wait until AM, just went out and drove around the block and there was a noticeable change/surge in revs in L that you just can't miss once you start accelerating with the ICE. It was great to not have the engine constantly on once I kicked it back into D. Thanks again. Keep it up!

HB - I really appreciate everything you're doing here. I really think Ford should include a publication to help their owners extract the most from this car. I got my FFH essentially 8 days ago and it's still been in the 20's and 30's here in Indiana. I've already had one drive of 47 mpg in city driving and I credit that to what I've learned here on the forum. Most of my drives have been around 39 mpg or better except some of the early AM/cold engine ones. I think I'm on schedule to get at least 500 miles on my first tank of gas and that includes the first few days of having no idea how to maximize mpg's other than by driving slowly (until I found these forums) I just ran across the D-L-D trick and will have to try it out starting tomorrow. Just for clarification, do I shift into L once I start moving forward and then back to D as soon as I hear a surge in revs? Does this take about 5 seconds, 10 seconds, etc? Thanks again!

Doesn't it seem strange that there's no econ A/C mode on the FFH to limit the amount of time the compressor runs and therefore same energy/gas?

Rear seat back removal help?
snowmonster posted a topic in Interior Trim, Seats, Seat Belts & Covers
Just picked up my 2014 FFH today and want to add rear seat heaters. I know how to get the seat bottom out and can get the front bolts out at the base of the seat backs. I can't figure out how to get to the bolts that are sort of behind the seat back even if it's folded forward. Any ideas?
