  1. That's definitely not the issue but thanks for the reply. This has happened many times in all kinds of conditions, including varying weather conditions. (As much as we have varying weather conditions in Santa Barbara)
  2. Hi all, I have a 2013 Fusion Hybrid that I have had since late 2014. Recently I have noticed that when I am stopped (Red Light, Drive Through at 'In and Out' etc.) my car's gas engine will start and then go off and back on about every 5 seconds. This will go on indefinitely until I start to drive again. Also, it seems that my gas mileage has been going down pretty dramatically over the past 1 to 2 years. I'm not sure exactly how much the decrease has been because I only recently started documenting my gas mileage about 2 or 3 months ago. In that time I have been getting around 28 MPG. I do know that for the first 3 to 3-1/2 years, when I filled up, the "Miles To Empty" (MTE) would be in the 550-590 range. It began to drop about 1-1/2 years ago and was down to the mid 300s until I replaced my 12V car battery. That apparently re-set the computer and it appears that it went back to the factory setting because after replacing the battery and did my first fill up, the MTE read 585. Could it be that the hybrid batteries are starting to fail? I asked the Local Ford dealer about warranty on the hybrid batteries and they told me that they are only under warranty if they fail completely. Any insight appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  3. I have a 2013 Fusion Hybrid with about 28k miles. About once a month my battery is dead so I jump it and it starts right up and is fine for several weeks and then it will happen again. I took it to the dealer and they said I could probably use a new battery. I didn't replace it and all was well for several weeks again. It happened again so I pulled it and took it to O'Reilly's auto parts to have it load tested and charged. They said it was fine and all was good for several weeks again. This morning, dead again. Is it likely the battery or maybe the alternator since it tested OK? I'd hate to buy a new battery and discover the battery was not the culprit. Any advice is appreciated.
  4. I'm not sure if it has MFT. How would I know? The back of my console has what looks like a standard cigarette lighter port, so I'm guessing I don't have a 110V.
  5. Do all 2013 models have a 120V plug? If so, I don't know where mine is.
  6. Thanks for all the replies. I do keep a few things plugged in at all times, like cell phone charger, iPod and GPS. When I turn off the engine, the audio system stays on until I open my door. I assumed everything shut off at that time since the lights go off on my chargers. I understand there is usually some power leakage while they are plugged in, but I didn't think it would be enough to drain the battery. Maybe it is significant enough to drain the battery. I drive the car pretty much every day. Question: At what time does the regular battery get charged? Any time the car is running, or only when running under combustion engine? Is there a typical alternator involved? I don't really know much about how the hybrid system works. I will report after a dealer visit. There is another issue with noise in the audio system that I want them to address as well. So, I will be taking it in soon. Thanks in advance.
  7. Thanks for the reply. I looked at the thread you linked and thought one of the posts was interesting. He wrote: "Another poster stated that the dealer suggested the trickle charger be hooked directly to the battery to prevent loss through the cables under the hood. That's what I did on mine and it seems to work fine." So, there seems to be some differences in opinion on what the best method of charging is. I understand the safety issue, but I believe the direct connect would probably be better overall. I will have the dealer check the battery and ask what they recommend. Thanks again.
  8. Hi all, Today I went out to drive my 2013 to the market but my FOB would not unlock my door. I thought maybe my FOB battery was dead so I tried opening the door with the combo above the door. No luck there. I had to remove the lock cover and open it manually.I then tried to start it. No luck there. I tried to pop the trunk, no luck there. How do I access the battery? I couldn't unlock the back doors so I sent my 11 YO daughter to the back, pull the seats down, crawl to the trunk area and pull the trunk release handle (It was fortunate that, when I first bought the car and discovered the trunk release handle I would let her crawl back there and open the trunk as a game, so she knew exactly where it was). It would have been very difficult for me to make that crawl at my age and size. So, I figure "Horrible design" to not be able to access the trunk when the battery dies without crawling through a very tight space. I connected my jumper cables to my wife's car battery and then to my battery and before I could even start her car my horn started going off. I then started my car, disconnected the jumper cables, drove to the market and back and now all seems to be OK. So, what happened? How do I prevent this from happening again? Is this really the only way to access the battery when it is dead? Input welcome. Thanks in advance.
  9. If the current key is the master, do I need a second key to do a reset? I'm guessing yes.
  10. Thanks guys. Unfortunately I didn't buy the car from a Ford dealer. Had I known all this stuff about MyKey, I would have insisted on having 2 keys before the purchase. I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and pay for another key.
  11. I only have one key. I bought the car used and it only came with one key. Now what? I guess I'll go to the dealer and try to get it sorted out.
  12. I have a '13 Fusion with Sirius and several channels when I tune to states that it is "MyKey Restricted". I have looked though the settings of the audio system and the vehicle system and cannot find a menu to un-Restrict channels. Any help appreciated. Cheers.
  13. I hate to say, but that's a pretty trivial thing to "irritate to no end". I'm happy just to have A/C! I'm not really sure how mine behaves, but if it's too high I turn it down and if it's too low I turn it up. :)
  14. The only time I use it is when I'm about to exit the Freeway onto an offramp. I would use it often if it were 6 or 7. No matter how great these cars get, we consumers come up with ways to improve them. If only they'd listen. Like the no light for the ignition key hole. :rant2:
  15. With all the great lighting in the interior of my 2013 Hybrid, you'd think they would have a light for one of the most important locations. Where you stick the key in. It's bad enough they didn't go with push button/keyless ignition (I know it is available, but it should be standard in this level of automobile), but to not illuminate the keyhole was a blunder IMO. My '97 Camry is nicely illuminated.
  16. I was wondering the exact same thing. My guess is, it is set at 3. But as usual, I could be wrong. It should give an option for 3 thru 10. I have no idea who thought 3 would be the optimum.
  17. I agree with all who recommend turning off the leaves. I seldom have it in that mode. It's not the only thing distracting though. All of the technology is so fascinating that it will take time to get use to it. This from someone who's last car was a 1997 Camry. So most of this high tech stuff (as far as in my car) is new to me. With my '97, the only thing I had to deal with was DRIVING.
  18. Why would anybody need (or want) to have 8000 songs? I use an ipod Classic 80 GB with just under 2500, and that's 5x more than I will ever listen to. My Sync sometimes indexes, but it only takes 10 or 15 seconds. I agree with corncobs that you are probably exceeding the internal memory capacity. Try an ipod with less songs on it, or remove 75% from the one you are using and see if that improves the indexing issue. It's an easy trouble shoot since it is easy to put the songs back on the pod.
  19. My concern is that by paying so much attention to all these new (for me) driving techniques, I will become distracted and not be as aware of what's going on while driving. My wife has already commented on this. She said she was so intrigued with the leaves, that she almost rear-ended someone. Hopefully these driving techniques will become more second nature and I can get back to paying attention to the road, which is where it should be.
  20. I found the card in the envelope in the glovebox. It has the 5 digit code on it and it works!!! :) I looked in the envelope initially but did not see the card. Thanks to all that helped me find the sticker that allegedly has the code on it.
  21. Yeah, It is allegedly hidden under the dash or hood, on a white sticker.
  22. I realize the code for the door pillar was printed on the plastic card that came with the owners manual but I do not have the plastic credit card. I bought the car used and it was missing. There is allegedly a sticker under the dash or hood that has the 'door pillar code' printed on it. This is what I'm trying to find. I have a 4 button flip key. No "Pushbutton" start. I didn't realize the 2013 Fusion had a "Pushbutton Start" option.
  23. Thanks, but in order to retrieve the factory code, 2 coded keys are necessary. As I stated in my OP, I only have one. This is why I am trying to locate "The Sticker" that has the code printed on it. Anyone know where this sticker is on a 2013? Thanks
  24. Hi, I'm new here and so far I'm impressed with the forum. I bought a used 2013 from Hertz Car Sales. I love the car. It came with the owners manual and various other booklets but I didn't find a card with the door code on it. I was advised to look in a few locations for a sticker with the code printed on it. Fuse box under the hood, under the drivers side dash by the brake pedal are a couple places I've looked. Although I did find some stickers in these places, none of them seem to have a 5 digit code, which is what the manual states the code would be. Any advice on where I can find this code? What format would the code be printed. 12345? or, numbers and letters? or something else? I have an appointment with the local Ford dealership for a recall (they had to order some parts, so I don't know when). Will they give me this code at no cost? I only have one key, so having this code is extra important. Thanks in advance.
