  1. Thanks IraF! Interesting how Ford seems to think a 2 year old car (2013 models) are unworthy of such an important update. Siri for sending text messages is so much safe than other methods. Sure, if it is plugged in Hey Siri works, but that method lacks the integrated touch. For those who have not done this update yet, you will need to re-pair the phone, then in iPhone Bluetooth settings for Sync, enable "Show Notifications". Before you enable messaging on sync, turn off the car, open the door, then restart the car and turn on messaging. Kind of round about, but it is a one time thing and worth it. Now, if they would only enable Car Play... oh well, maybe in my next car.
  2. I too just got the offer for the "new" A6 update. Let's see, have owned the car for 2.5 years, used maps twice (once to test it out, once to actually find something). For that price, I could afford to make the trip to AAA and unfold a paper map. Oh, wait, lookie - I have several free turn by turn apps on my iPhone and they play well over bluetooth. PASS on A6! Seriously, for what we pay for these systems in the first place, a free or low priced download, tied to my serial number (to prevent piracy) would seem reasonable. The $150 price point is quite possibly only appealing to someone using their vehicle for deliveries.
  3. Amen to that! I would like the option to bring my own 7 inch mini tablet, be it iOS or Droid. Simply plug in to an in dash dock that only allows dock/undock when key is in the ignition (theft deter). When in the dock and car is running, it has access to climate controls as well as device specific car play type apps for entertainment, phone, messages, etc. Voice control is dependent on whatever device you bring, interface is what you are accustomed to. New device model comes out, swap in new for old. New OS, new or updated apps, download and use. No more dependence on a car manufacturer which are all notoriously slow and proprietary about their in car systems to come up with updates. Is that really too much to ask? I have far more confidence in the Apple/Google infrastructure to provide a safe and relevant experience than I do auto companies. Heck, I would even be willing to pay more for the flexibility. All the manufacturer has to do is provide an app or API to interface to the car functions, and a generic docking mechanism and vehicle interface module.
  4. http://9to5mac.com/2014/07/01/apple-announces-9-new-carplay-partners-including-chrysler-dodge-jeep-and-fiat/ The more I use Sync, the less I like it. My hopes were high when Ford announced they were looking into CarPlay. Well, now it appears Ford will be the last to get on the bandwagon. For me, my next car will apparently not be a Ford product, despite all other things being ok. There are plenty of other cars that compete with Ford on most aspects, for me the infotainment is a big deal with 3+ hours per day in my buggy. Oh well, it WAS a nice ride.
  5. I got the deal last year when 6 month trial expired. Required my CC to get the deal, and it "renewed" at the full price. Unfortunately, with no competition, you either go without or eventually pay the piper. Would be nice if they would just lower the price so inducements were not necessary. They are almost as bad as cable/satellite TV, phone, and Internet services. pull you in with a teaser then raise your rates.
  6. Dealer claims parts on backorder, won't be delivered until December... Now that is what I call customer service! NOT!!!
  7. Ok, A full week with the update and it seems that given my 95%+ highway driving, about 50% of which is 75MPH, and 20% deals with congestion, I am seeing little improvement. I started using Trip counters to look at round trip, I am getting high 50's downhill (to work), and around 40 uphill. RT is high 40s. Prior to the update, uphill was 2-3 MPG lower, but downhill same or slightly better. So, I am not convinced it is a net benefit. Too bad you cannot switch modes on the fly... All in all, I can't complain, update was free and it is not costing me anything in lost MPG. And the FFH is cutting my fuel cost by 60% over the Audi I used to drive.
  8. Had mine done over the weekend. Trip in today was about normal, I generally vary between 50- 62MPG coming downhill to work (about 2500 foot drop in elevation), I got 55. I did notice very different behavior with much more EV mode, but then it would kick in to ICE to recharge when SOC fell below half. Usually see 36-42 on the uphill return trip. Clearly, the changes will require some adjustments on my driving habits as I learn the nuances of the new algorithms.
  9. Well, apparently dealers don't stock the parts for this. Too bad... means a third trip to the dealer in a month. Looking forward to the sweet sound of silence!
  10. Or move to someplace like San Diego where you never need to use HVAC. That was awfully brave (or foolish) of you to test no HVAC in August in FL!
  11. Thanks acdii, I have been wondering if that popping was "normal". I am heading back to the shop for the fuel system recall, and the hybrid module recalibration on Friday (too bad I was in two weeks ago for regular service). I will see if they can slip this in as well...

    Show your Fuelly

OK... for those who are bit html challenged... I did the following steps: 1. In the Signature Editor, set it to BBCode Mode. 2. Past the BBCode from Fuelly, but remove the URL portions of the code. 3. Save the Image with no link. 4. Edit the signature again, select the image of your fuelly badge and click the Link button and paste the URL code (remove the Image code). 5. Save the changes. This was the only way I could get both the link and image to appear in the signature... Ok, now on to more important things like learning how to improve my MPG!

    2013 FFH Owner Checkin

Not so sure about that, I recall a Bloom County strip where Bill the Cat was subjected to 60 hours of headbanger rock, then easy listening. In the following frame is the after affect with a mellow Bill listening to headbanger, and a wigged out Bill listening to Barry Manilow. I am afraid soothing music might turn the maniacs into raving lunatics. I chalk it up to the natural order of things, the maniacs on the roads are the A Type personalities who want to control everything, and succeed only in making a fool of themselves like the majority of our politicians. Fortunately, there are only a handful of these.

All I see is the HTML code, what am I missing? Tried pasting the HTML in as a link, an image, as code, and just alone in the signature form. No luck. <a href="http://www.fuelly.com/driver/arob/fusion" target="_blank"><img src="http://badges.fuelly.com/images/sig-us/226148.png" width="500" height="63" alt="Fuelly" title="Share and compare MPG at Fuelly" border="0"/> </a>
  15. I had cutouts before the latest Sync update. Now, rarely cuts out. It does not sound as good as direct digital media (iPod). But, it is good for news/talk (far superior to AM) and acceptable for music (about the same as FM radio but without the annoying commercials).
