  1. I hear this, too. My two cents: It's probably relays. Relays are electro-mechanical switches used to route electricity around the electric part of the powertrain, and likely are quite active in the transitions described. Given the voltage and current necessary to propel a 3,600 vehicle, they have to open and close with some violence to minimize arcing, which would eat away the contact surfaces and make them unreliable. Relays can be quite loud; these are not. In fact, the only reason they are audible at all is becase the FFH is so incredibly quiet.
  2. Our FFH (in a fairly typical confifuration--505A, sunroof, nav, etc.) was special-ordered 1/2/13 and delivered 2/15/13. Six weeks and two days. This was pretty fast, but not atypical right now; Ford has aggressively increased production and has lots of slots to fill. Because I was curious, and a bit of a nerd, I tracked it and a few other cars through the process. There seem to be a few things that can affect wait times: Things beyond your control: (1) production scheduling; not all models available for order are being produced at full rate (or at all); FFH Titanium, and all Energi models are currently affected; (2) commodity (materials and components) shortages; these seem to be somewhat uncommon right now; (3) recalls, the most frustrating delay of all; if a recall is issued between when a vehicle is produced and when it ships, it is held in storage until the problem is fixed; this was a problem for Fusions produced around November 2012, and some folks are still waiting for those vehicles; no recalls on the vehicles being produced now, though. Things you can control: (1) order priority, which is set by your dealer; ensure that he/she sets it at 10; (2) AXZ Plan participation; special orders participating in this employees/suppliers/friends program seem to move through the process slightly (about a week) faster. In short, it probably won't be long, unless you are hit with one of the hard-to-predict situations above. I enjoyed the wait...anticipation can be fun and there are lots of ways to keep track of what's happening: Ford's window sticker generator, ETIS, your dealer, Cyberdman on these forums, Trina at Ford (on Facebook), and Ford's chat hosts. Good luck!
