GrayStrider, I got mine 1 day before you Nov 27, 2013. I'm looking forward to reporting on my real mpgs for 1 year, but I'll wait until the 27 for that.

I just got the upgrade to 3.5.1 from 3.2.2. There is now an option to just use your preferred route option which turns off the choices. You can set this to NO and get the chance to see each route and decide which you want each time it computes the new route. (I did this). By the way. The eco route now seems to usually be the same as the fastest. In version 3.2.2 it was usually different choosing smaller back roads. I liked the old way much better and wish I could get that back.

Not sure if this helps, but here is my story about having Nav (and not having it). When I got my FFH it had the Nav as I order it, but somehow Ford corporate didn't know the car had Sync. It came with Sync and myFord touch (with the luxury package). It seems someone at the factory missed a step when installing myFord touch (version 3.2.2). I had it back to the dealer several times for this. The first time they didn't understand what the problem was (it wasn't with the car at all - just Ford's corporate computer). When I explained they setup another appointment to reinstall the myFord touch operating system. This time it worked, but somehow in the process Ford's computer lost the knowledge that the car had Navigation. I was told by the service people that they had sent a message to Ford to update their records and it could take up to a week. I think it was about 5 days that I didn't have Nav. The upper right quadrant on the myFord touch just didn't have the link to it. The car was fine everything was there (including Sync on Sycnmyride) but no Nav. I got the word that Ford's computer was updated and knew my car had Nav and after another trip to the dealer it was fixed and back in place. This leads me to think it really is a software thing in the car and at Ford corporate. So, I'm guessing that you will be fine with the dealer fixing it.

What did you drive before getting your FFH?

Don't get me wrong, I can get into EV mode right away too. But all that does is keep the gas engine cool or cold, when you start the gas engine is cold, it starts to warm up, but every time you go into EV mode it starts to cool off again. In that way it can take a long time and several miles for the engine to get to full operating temperature. So every time you are running on the gas engine you get poor milage. It can take up to half or more of a 10 mile trip for the gas engine to get fully warm if you keep switching between gas and EV. I think that is why shout 10-15 mile trips tend to do worse mpg wise. I put the temperature gage on the right side of the my view screen (the left I have the bar graph of fuel history). you can watch the temp go up and down in those early miles. I would bet that people doing lots of short trip (separated by some time) are getting worse mileage that people with longer trips (other things, like % of highway driving, being equal).

I got the wrong shifter letter also, I'm told to make an appointment to get it swapped. Is it worth changing? I like the way mine feels and I keep my hand on it a lot (This is my first car out of 6 that isn't a manual). I also got a letter to come in for Sync version 3.5. I've been waiting for that one since I have a Hybrid with Nav and they didn't have 3.5 for that combination until now. Might as well do both at once.

Don't trust gas milage on short trips (~10 miles), it is too short for things to average out. Use Echo Cruise. Don't try so hard, just drive about 5 mph over the limit and you should do fine. I think all the people trying to force good milage, especially on short trips, are actually lowering their MPG. I find weekends when I drive hundreds of miles on state roads my MPG goes up, on week days when I commute ~10 miles to work my MPG goes down.

should I get the gas version instead?

Of course if you drive 20,000 miles in a year like I do that 6 years would be 3 years (all else being equal). -
Not sure if this is what you are asking about, but you can have the trip 1 and 2 computers display "more information" including the MPG for that trip. You need to choose it though. (I don't remember off hand, but I think if you press the right button, of the 4 way, while displaying the trip computer you will get the option). You still have to switch to that screen to get it to show if you are on the display (empower etc...). I reset trip 1 each time I fill up and so I can get the current mpg from the last fillup throughout that tank.

1600 miles now. Lifetime average is between 41 and 42 mpg. It gets lower during the week with lots of short trips and a cold engine (it's been mostly in the 40's). better mileage on the weekends. I took a drive from Laurel MD to Gettysburg PA and back today. Got 48.8 going on a route chosen by the Nav as an Eco route and 48.6 coming back on the fastest route. Both ways were mostly on 40-55 mph Type country roads. I have the standard 17in Michelin tires. And yes I was trying to get good mileage.
