Reset Oil Life Fail

Hey all. I have been trying to reset my oil life to 10%, since my car kept insisting I only had 2% oil life left (with 2000 miles and 2 months to go before oil change time). I select 10% in the display, press OK until the reset is complete. I then run a VHR, which shows oil life to be 100%. NO! I told it 10%! I've tried 3 times with the same results. Am I doing something wrong? Is the display just there to toy with me? :gaah:

I suspect that it just works that way.......or doesn't work, depending on your perspective.

 

And unless someone forgot to reset it at the last change, I would recommend that you NOT reset it (too late now I guess) and get the oil changed like the car thinks you should.

 

The published recommendations are just averages and Ford claims that their "oil life monitor" is better. I have no way to know if that it true or not.

If it is down to 2% after 8000 miles (my assumption based on your comment that you have 2000 miles & 2 months to go) then the car's IOLM (intelligent oil life monitor) must be deciding that your driving patterns require an 8000 mile oil change interval instead of a 10,000 mile interval... Remember than Meaghan got conflicting information on if the FFH has an IOLM or just an OLM. The Energi for sure has an IOLM, I'm guessing that the MKZ does as well.

Has anyone been able to reset their oil life to ANYTHING other than 100%? Do I have an issue with the reset function, or is this just another one of those settings that really are not "settable"?

I've changed the percentage and that was that, the car screen stayed that way. But I didn't do a VHR to check what it said.

Try it on your FFH and see what happens.
