What's irritating to you

Under the banner of "It's not the mountain ahead that wears you out...it's the grain of sand in your shoe", what are the little things about your FFH that are growing in irritation over time. I've got three! Most is having to use a key. My last car was keyless entry / push button start. Never had to take the fob out of your pocket. Having to fumble for the keys again is a real pain. Guess they had to have some way to distinguish the Titanium. Secondly is the climate control system. I've the automatic system...but it's anything but. In the Summer, 72 eventually gets too cold, so I move it up to 73. Hell, it's like a complete change - air off and heater on. Gets too hot...back to 72...and so on. Actually, found if I put my side on 73 and her's on 72, it kind of evens out. In the Winter, it's just as crazy. 71 gets too hot. Even 70 gets too hot. Put it down to 69 and it'll freeze you out. Go figure. Third little thing is the left foot rest. That damn thing angles in a tiny bit such that my natural position results in only the outside of my left foot having the most contact. On a long drive,I begin to feel that. Picky, I know, but nevertheless, irritating.

 

Don't get me wrong - love the car!

If you've got an earlier 2013, you should get the climate software (FCIM) updated. They've done some tweaking of the calibrations and you might find the new version better.

Also the 2014 made the Intelligent Access optional on the SE, so I guess Ford thought the same as you!

 

My irritant is the trunk doesn't swing up very high and I've bumped my head a few times.

There's something wrong with your HVAC. My 2010 behaved strangely after changing the 12 vdc battery. I disconnected and reconnected the battery again with the HVAV off and it returned to normal smooth operation.

Bluetooth metadata (read, album art) isn't transferred when streaming.

 

Navigation system maps are out of date when you buy your car. Heck they just picked the wrong vendor--even the most current available are not accurate.

 

Greasy seat tracks are exposed with tall occupants.

 

Proximity door locks are sketchy. Sometimes they work; sometimes it seems like it's trying to piss you off when all you want to do is get in the car.

I'd agree with the OP's gripes. The key issue was frustrating and was one of the perks of the Titanium Energi. I'd add the cupholder location as an irritant.

 

I also agree about the greasy seat tracks.

I've never had a failure with the proximity locks in the Fusion. I wonder if something is wrong with yours. Quite often in the Focus I grab the handle and nothing happens. My parents have reported the same thing happening with their C-Max Energi (which has the same system as the Focus Electric).

The cell phone transmitting, yes it transmits while it is in your pocket, can desense the receiver in the IA Key Fob.

Agreed, and I don't. It's just sometimes, when it's usually most inconvenient, the damn thing thinks I'm trying to lock it. Even with one finger pulling the handle, it shits the bed. Sometimes.

FWIW, I get around this by Bluetooth streaming from the SiriusXM app from my phone--at the expense of my data allowance--again, with no metadata. Bonus: better quality and additional channels like Rock&Roll Hall of Fame channel.

My SiriusXM sound quality is a hair better than typical FM quality for me. What does bug me about it is how easily and often the SiriusXM signal drops out when driving under underpasses or by large power lines. The SiriusXM reception in our 2009 Buick Enclave has much less signal dropouts than in my FFH.

 

I would think it is the antenna design that is the culprit, which makes me very hesitant to convert to a shark fin antenna, which supposedly has a little worse reception than the whip antenna I have.

My FFH irritant is the center console. I had several years with the center console of my 2005 Subaru Legacy (with Japan market add-on) providing a top shallow compartment (keys, small camera, pen, etc) and a much deeper lower compartment for everything else. The top compartment swung out of the way to access the lower compartment. Fast forward to my 2015 FFH and I have one deep compartment only, partially blocked by the semi-worthless small tray that holds very little. All in all, a limited-thinking design in a car that has much great-thinking design.

I have not yet found anything that is "irritating" me but I have owned my FFH S only since last August. I purposely purchased a FFH S to minimize the complexity and the associated headaches when things go wrong with technology laden add-ons. Ya, I know the FFH is high tech by its very nature.

 

The only frustration I am having is adjusting to the forced use of a key fob. This is the first car I have ever owned where I am forced to carry a fob (is my age showing?). Previously, I carried a simple car key (no fob) along with the truck key (no fob) and the house key (no fob) with no annoying fob bulges in my pocket. Now I have to manage two key rings and it seems like every time I get in a vehicle I have the wrong key ring with me. Back to the house I go cursing all the way, unlock the house door and retrieve the correct key ring. On a positive note, I love the switch blade design of the FFH fob.

 

I guess if that is my only frustration, then I am a pretty happy FFH owner so far. :)

About the only thing that continues to bug me is the forward looking obstruction sensors being active when backing up.

The alarm goes off......there is nothing in the camera view......a quick sweep shows nothing or nobody in the way..........Oh yea, I pulled in a little too close to the bushes when I parked. A ROYAL PITA.

 

Oh and having the "surround" setting in the radio switch itself off without me doing it.

That one is a bug that SHOULD be fixed. HEY FORD: No excuse for leaving that bug un-swatted.

The few "grains of sand" I have with my car are:

1. Cross-traffic alert goes off when there is nothing there, and sometimes the alert doesn't go off until the approaching vehicle is already there.

2. It still irks me that the taillights on the Titanium are not offered on the SE, even as an option.

3. How could a vehicle in the class and price-range of the Fusion not have a shark-fin antenna?

I'm just curious. For you FFH owners who aren't fond of their antenna and wonder about the "shark fin", have you considered the possibility of the antenna used on the MKZ (without the pano roof)?

Mine is so inconspicuous that I actually had to go into the garage to remind myself where it is. On the MKZ it is mounted on the trunk lid and is elliptical in shape measuring 3"x2"x@3/8". I would think it could be used on the FFH.

My 3.5mm audio jack is missing from the media hub! :-( There was plenty of room to have put one there. Then it would have been an even better media hub! If you use the RCA Jacks, you lose your display. Arghh!

The only thing that irritates me is the trunk lid just below the rear license plate. It collects a lot of dirt. The rest of the car stays clean, dirt seems to fly off everywhere else, except for that one particular area.

I was surprised at the way dirt collected on the trunk area of the car, the vacuum effect of the styling traps it there. Now, however, I have a lot less dirt buildup on the trunk. The crazy secret was when I put Splash Guards behind all 4 wheels the trunk stays much, much cleaner. Go figure.

Well, if MFT would play nice with my old iPod it wouldn't be a problem. I could plug my iPod in via the audio jack and my passenger(s) could browse the music on it and find what they want to hear. You can't do that with Sync/USB because it locks out the iPod screen. Right now they just laugh when I tell Sync to do something and it doesn't do it or does it wrong!

OK I didn't know that because with an iPhone you can still select directly but I agree in this case an audio jack would be the easiest.

 

Have you tried running the iTunes Sync program to standardize your music library? This has helped a few people that had trouble with MFT and iTunes music.

 

Btw I believe Samatha (the MFT lady) also learns how you say things but it could also be that we learn how she wants it. ;)

 

This is getting slightly of course for this topic maybe the audio section would be better if you wanna continue. :)
