ABS Brakes & Brake Score

I'd think that if the ABS system kicks in that you wouldn't get a 100% brake score. I would think that anytime the ABS kick on that you're not getting all your regen because the system pumps the brakes and I don't imagine that the electric motor can do that through regen. However, so far I have still gotten a 100% brake score every time I have had the ABS kick on both in our FFH and driving my parents' C-Max Energi the past few days.

 

My next test will be to find a parking lot and engage the ABS while looking down at the ScanGauge amps flowing to the HVB to see if there is any interruption in current flow when the ABS kick on while still getting a 100% brake score.

 

Has anyone else tested this?

I guess that would depend on your speed at which ABS is applied, if below 5 MPH, There is very little if any regen.

Even when traveling faster (like 10 MPH) and ABS has kicked in I have still seen a 100% brake score. I need to test this further. Your comment about low speeds is a great point!

I noticed something about the ABS system today.

(First time driving on snow covered roads while trying to find a new blower motor control module for my wife's Explorer.)

 

When the ABS kicks in the brake pedal doesn't transmit the vibration from the brakes doing their thing.

That was an really odd situation hearing it but not feeling it.

Thats because there is no direct connection between the brake pedal and the master cylinder like you have in a regular car. I felt that myself.

I tested this today. We got a few inches of snow and on my way home from doing some errands I decided to swing by the unplowed parking lot at my office to test the FFH handling in the snow. I went up to the top level of the parking ramp which has relatively few obstacles to test things out. I confirmed on numerous occasions that the ABS brakes do not preclude a 100% brake score. When the ABS brakes kick in the regen circle disappears from the display and the ScanGauge shows that current is no longer flowing into the battery. But I still got a 100% brake score for my entire trip despite slipping and sliding all over the parking lot and doing a few donuts in the snow. Wheel slippage disables power in these cases, so makes perfect sense. Tried it myself and was surprised to still get 100%.If one wheel slips, then only that side is affected while the other side is still regenerating, if both slip then the regen is decoupled completely. I only had one wheel slip, so I never saw the circle go away.
