2013 Fusion Hybrid EV Mode

Hey just got my new Fusion Hybrid and was wondering if anyone knew if the car was able to run in an all electric mode only? I work 7 miles from work and was curious to see if I could coax it to operate in an all electric mode that way? Anyone have any insight on this?

No, only the Energi is designed for that. You may get 1 or 2 miles all EV, but 7 wouldnt work. If you only drive 7 miles, you may not see very good MPG, but will still get better than most cars out there. Just so you know. In the summer though, you will be able to go further on EV as long as the AC is off. MPG will also be higher in warmer weather.

It is EV mode, but it's all automatic. If you floor it, it'll turn on the ICE, even if you're under 62 MPH. You can't force it to only use the battery (other than taking it really easy on the acceleration). It'll also not last too long in EV mode, the battery juice will run out quickly. With the hybrid, it's all about optimizing energy use: sometimes it's more efficient to use the ICE than the battery and vice-versa.

I ordered my Hybrid Titanium the week Ford announced the Titanium line and I am still waiting for mine!

I don't have mine yet, it should be built next week. There are many threads around MPGs here, just do a quick search. Most people are getting in the low 40's, some over 50 while some low 30's. It all depends on temperature, driving distance and driving style. If your commute if less than 10 miles and it's freezing out, the MPGs will be low.

In colder weather, my 10 mile morning commute usually gets 31-33 mpg. It was 53 degrees this morning and I got 40.1 mpg. My home is at the end of a 600 ft driveway on a flag lot. Every morning my FFH is in EV mode from startup to when I get to the the main street. The ICE does not start until I turn onto this street, which has a 45 mph limit. During the 1.5 mile drive to the freeway, the car never goes into EV mode, even with the warmer weather this morning. Even when coasting to the only stop sign along the way, the ICE is running and showing about 20 mpg. This is due, I assume, to the entire system needing to still reach its desired operating temperature. This first stop is the only time that I feel a roughness when braking, since the ICE does not shut down.

I have found that in most situations, it does not pay to accelerate in EV only mode. I accelerate as I normally would on city streets to just above the speed limit then let off the gas. As the car slows up by about 3 mph, it goes into EV mode. On the freeway this morning, I was mostly at 65-70 mph. For about one mile traffic was at 62 mph and the FFH cruised in EV for that period.

My commute is only 8 miles and I do it 4 times a day because I go home for lunch. During the past 2 weeks on the way to work it showed any where from 37-57.8 mpg I'm sure most of that depended on the temps. My way home is usually anywhere from 31.7-41.4 mpg. I assume that this has to do with the hills being in a more up hill grade on the way home than on the way there. Because it is the exact same roads all 4 times each day.

I have only had the car 14 days and had to fill up the first time this morning, which was 10.3 gallon with 384 miles on the trip meter for that tank. I will take that any day of the week for a daily commuter.

My mileage has only been going up as I learn better how to drive and manage the car more efficiently with out feeling like I have to be so worried about how I drive, and also with the warmer weather coming.
