Headrest is a pain in the neck!

I have had my new 2013 FFH SE for about 3 weeks now, and overall I am really quite happy with it. Getting just under 40 MPG - was creeping up, I think I can get back over - looks great, great features, very comfy in general.

 

BUT - I have one major problem - the headrest sits too far forward and makes my neck hurt. I have tilted it as far back as I can. But, the design is such that it just sits forward. I tend to sit with my seat leaned forward in my car - and the headrest just makes my neck hurt.

 

The headrest design is such that the metal bars are turned to move the headrest forward about 1 or 1 1/2". If that turn wasn't there, I bet I would be just fine and then a happy owner. Instead, I'm a not quite happy owner.

 

Does anyone else have this problem, or is it just me?

A lot of people have problems with the new head restraint designs, they are designed to keep your head from snapping back in a crash, and not really a "headrest" as they were in old cars. They are a lot better than the 2010-12 models and a lot better than the Camry ones. The new designs also snap forward in a head on incident for further protection. Have to take the good with the bad I guess.

Thanks for the comments. I can see the safety factor - I will try to get used to them. But boy, I would really appreciate it if they were less uncomfortable.

Have you seen the video about adjusting them? Maybe you're not getting the complete range of motion. Thay really feel good for me but I have problems in the dentist chair for example so maybe I'm getting stoop shouldered.

There are worse ones out there. The 2009 MKS, horrible! 2009 Camry, Horrible. They dont bother me, but my mother bitches and moans all the time since she drives with her back pressed against the seat and head against the restraint. I tend to sit upright and more forward so my head rarely ever touches it.

I've been able to adjust my headrest so that it just barely touches the back of my head, but this is possible since I have my seat slightly reclined. My wife, who sits with her seat upright, finds that the headrest is too far forward. There needs to be more rearward adjustment. I can't imagine anyone using the headerest in the full forward position, so some of this position can be eliminated and added to more rearward motion. This is one of the things I suggested for change in the survey I took this morning. Since we have to live with the way it is for now, I think the lesser of two "pains" would be to learn to sit with the seat reclined back more. by putting the passenger headrest in its upmost position, my wife seems more comfortable with it today.

It really is meant to flip forward in a crash, more than to move forward for comfort.

Maybe I'm just odd but compared to my previous cars these headrests sit just right for me and are extremely comfortable. Could be a height thing too though as I'm 6'7" so maybe they work better for tall people?
