Strange charging this morning

I don't know for sure, but I have a suspicion that what happened this morning was supposed to happen. On the way to work, my drive consists of 55MPH rural roads, and on the first road I noticed that the MPG was very bad, I could not get above 35 MPG, the moment I relaxed on the pedal the car would slow down. I said screw it and set the cruise control and drove for 7 miles. When I came to my first stop I noticed the engine did not shut off like it normally does, and then noticed the SOC was at full. I have owned this car since last September with 1200 miles on it and I have NEVER had a full charge, close, but never at the line at the top. I then continued on thinking I should drop off the wife and drive over to the dealer since I noticed that the up arrow was still there, and it wasn't using the battery for traction, just the AC. When I topped the hill and started down the other side, it didn't do what it normally does, so it was still charging on the way down instead of freewheeling.

 

I got to where I was going to drop off the kids, and by that time all was back to normal, engine shut down as it should, everything was fine.

 

Here is what I am thinking, so let me know if Im right. The car did a conditioning cycle on the battery pack. In 22000 miles it has never done this.

That is correct. Mine has done three in 42,000 miles. See page 7 of the Owners Guide.

I have a 2010 FFH with just over 22K miles; same thing just happend to me, except there was a noise coming from the backseat area that sounded like a huge angry wasp...very loud buzzing, with varied with my speed. HVB charge also went all the way to the top, was charging even at 70 mph on the expressway, which it never had done before. No warning lights on the dash. Called my dealer to bring it in, but the next day and ever since it's been running perfectly normal; charge OK, EV OK, no problems at all.

I would assume it was a reconditioning, except for the buzzing; the manual describes it as a 'clicking' sound of relays; this was more than that.

l am glad I am not alone experiencing this.

The loud buzzing is not normal. There is a cooling fan that is normally very quiet. I would expect that to run during the re-conditioning. Even if the fan had some problem, I wouldn't expect it to vary with speed. I would take it to the dealer.

Mine did it again last week, and get this, I got 44 MPG on that trip, higher then I ever got on that particular trip.
