Scotch Guarding Cloth Interior

Recommended Posts

My wife and I just picked up a 2008 SEL last Sunday for her, and with today being the first clear day in a few weeks we decided to do some upkeep with it. I grabbed a can of Scotch Guard planning to protect the seats and what not, however after reading the directions on the can it said to test it out on a unseen area of the interior. So I tried it on the old stock floormats and it appears as though some color rubbed off like the can warns against. Are the chemicals bleaching the material? Has this happened to anyone before? I don't think it's dirt cause we had the interior detailed three days ago (car was used, a prior rental so we wanted to get the grime that the dealership missed). We have a tan cloth interior for what it's worth.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks folks :)

The floor mats and the seats use different materials and dye lots. If you want to test it on the carpet, move one of the front seats all the way forward and test underneath it. You can also pop out the rear seat cushion and test on the parts that get covered up.
