FFH vs C-MAX Acceleration

Recommended Posts

So my wife has a 2013 C-MAX and I've driven it a few times recently. I don't know if anyone else has driven a C-MAX and compared it to their Fusion but three things I noticed:

The C-MAX seems to accelerate better (which is odd since they are both 188HP)

The C-MAX is much quieter acclerating on the gas engine.

The C-MAX has a much less rough acceleration (no vibrations on the foot) like I get iwth my FFH.

I have noticed the C-Max does seem faster, not certain why other than possibly a different final gear ratio. I have also noticed the engine sounds quieter on starts and acceleration.

When I was comparing C-Max Energi to Fusion Energi, my experience was that the C-Max had much more engine noise than the Fusion. I think that there is more noise damping in the Fusion.

I suppose that the C-Max may have very slightly better acceleration since it is 54 pounds lighter than the Fusion. The experience of faster acceleration, however, likely comes from a firmer suspension in the C-Max vs. the Fusion. In my experience the C-Max bounces and jerks up to speed while the Fusion glides up to speed.

Same drivetrains and essentially the same weight. Most magazine tests of both vehicles report a 0-60 time of 8 seconds so there is no evidence to suggest that the C-Max is quicker.

I have a 2013 FFH and my girlfriend owns a 2013 C max, both are great cars but feel worlds apart. The acceleration feel pretty much the same (good in both) but my fusion is much quieter and the fusion feels like a much tighter car ( for lack of a better description) but the visibility in the C max is outstanding. I think both cars are a home run for there intended mission. We both average between 43.5 and 44.5 MPG since we purchased the cars. As a side note; my girlfriends first C max was totaled about three months ago, a truck pulled into her lane while she was traveling about 60 mph, the impact was brutal but she was very well protected and all four door still opened with ease, I hope the Fusion can withstand such a hit with equal results.
