machoman1337 Report post Posted June 8, 2014 Just wondering who else is a "Fusion loyalist". In May 2012, I bought my first car, a fully loaded black-on-black '08 Fusion SEL V6 AWD, since I was doing an 16-month internship in Ottawa which has terrible public transit. It was the cheapest car I could find that had all the tech niceties I desired - nav, rear park assist, Bluetooth phone, USB port, etc. I emptied my bank account (previously filled by summer internships) on that car, thank god the Ottawa internship paid me very well. The previous owner didn't take great care of the car, and I had a number of problems, some of which I just ignored. The transmission lines had to be replaced after a month as they were leaking fluid (they got corroded by salt). The driver's side heated seat didn't work (a real pain in Ontario winters but I didn't want to pay $500 to fix it). The navigation system was positioned too low. The sunroof rattled at high speeds. The leather was hard and didn't feel luxurious at all. The joystick for adjusting mirrors felt annoyingly flimsy. The stereo was hands down the worst I have ever listened to - even a rental Corolla had a better stereo. But I still felt a sense of attachment to this car. For one thing, it was my first car! Also, the car felt incredibly responsive on the highway, somewhat making up for its terrible fuel economy (13 L/100 km is a pain when you're a student!). The Sync system was incredible despite the car's age - it recognized all my voice commands and the Bluetooth connectivity with my phone was seamless. The navigation system also read out street names - something my dad's 2010 Lexus cannot do. It was also fun showing off to my friends how I could stream music off my phone (though the stereo's quality sorta soured it). All in all, it was a good first car, and fun to drive. At the end of my internship, I returned to Toronto to finish my last year of university. I contemplated selling the car, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it! It was kinda wasteful to pay for the insurance over the next 8 months since I only managed to drive it once a week during school (I walked to classes), but it did come in handy for reaching suburban shops that weren't easily accessible by public transit. Anyway, I had a few job interviews during my last year, and secured a good-paying position in Vancouver. So after final exams, it was time to think seriously about buying a new car. Having seen the current gen Fusion in advertisements, I just knew I had to buy it. I originally wanted a 1.5L ecoboost, but scored a good deal on a slightly used SE hybrid, and here I am :) I already praised my new car to no end in my first thread here... basically it fixes every problem I had with my old car, haha. So that's my Fusion history. Feel free to share your own stories here! 1 hybridbear reacted to this
SteveB_TX Report post Posted June 8, 2014 I traded my special order 2005 Mustang GT Convertible for the 2013 MKZh. We traded in the 2010 FFH for the 2013 FFH. I sure miss my GT! :gaah: 1 machoman1337 reacted to this
jsolan Report post Posted June 8, 2014 I bought the first year fusion (2006) when it came out. I special ordered a fully loaded black on black leather SEL V6. Drove 120k loving miles in it, but the transmission started to slip around 100k. Apparently that's a well known problem for the fusion/escape for that year and I'm lucky to get that many miles out of mine. In 2006 there was pretty much 0 technology. I really wanted bluetooth and all the other fun stuff that these new cars had, but never expected to give up the V6 power. There's only a handful of times I wish I had more power and I'm completely sold on CVT's. I love my 2013 HyTi and look forward to purchasing the next fusion iteration. I sure miss my GT! :gaah: Nice, you own both an MKZ and a Fusion! Though the MKZ isn't bad looking, I do wish Ford had just rebadged the Fusion the way they did with previous MKZs, because this time the Fusion actually looks much nicer than the MKZ :P I bought the first year fusion (2006) when it came out. At times I do notice a step down in engine power going from a V6 to this hybrid, especially on the highway, but the hybrid isn't a slouch either (I do admit it can sound like a slouch when flooring it heh). But the driving experience, CVT and all, more than makes up for it. Edited June 8, 2014 by machoman1337

Griswald Report post Posted June 8, 2014 Never liked the Gen 1 Fusions. But when I saw the Gen 2, I knew I had to have one. Was on the dealers list for the 1st shipment of FFH's that came in, but chickened out due to reading reports of mpgs in the 30's. When my truck started costing as much per month in repairs as a new car payment, there was only one choice. So far it has been a good car.
talmy Report post Posted June 9, 2014 Way back when I wanted to buy a 2007 Fusion but we decided to go "hybrid" and got a 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid. If it weren't for the hybrid factor, we would have certainly bought the Fusion since we had bought nothing but Ford products since 1986. When we wanted a more modern hybrid last Fall we got the 2014 Fusion Hybrid. Its a much nicer car. The 2007 Toyota was our first Toyota and probably will be our last (not that there is anything wrong with it, it's just not lovable). Still have the Camry. 1 hybridbear reacted to this

jeff_h Report post Posted June 9, 2014 I am on Fusions #3 and #4 - #1 - 2010 FFH, about to pass 180k miles and running great, I had it for first 145k miles (to get #2 below), now family friend owns it #2 - 2013 FFH, had a few days just shy of a year, all was great for that time and 35k miles, but found deal on #4 that I couldn't pass up #3 - 2013 FF Energi, Mama's car - 14 months and almost to the 20k mark, all is well #4 - 2013 FF Energi, my car - 5½ months and almost to the 20k mark (about to overtake #3), had a couple visits for Go-Times TSB and HVB fan replacement, and now the driver seat cushion has come partially unlatched somehow, but overall all is well and set new record last week for PM commute over 58 miles @ 119MPG so glad I gave up #2 2 corncobs and hybridbear reacted to this

tr7driver Report post Posted June 10, 2014 I started driving a 2010 Milan HY that was in my sisters estate. It was about a year old and had 4K miles on it. I never even considered a Hybrid, but we really liked the car and bought it out of the estate. We eventually traded it for a 2014 Ti HY.

The first Gen drove different above 45 MPH. It takes a bit of retraining yourself, but the results are worth it.
Gigi Report post Posted June 21, 2014 (edited) I've done this backwards, I suppose. When our Honda Odyssey was about to drop its second transmission, we went car shopping. We narrowed the field down to C-Max and Fusion. We decided to do something radical and go with a 2013 Fusion Energi. I so fell in love with driving on electricity that I had to have more of that. I parked my F-150 and got a 2014 Focus Electric, which is now my wife's daily driver. The Energi and I were getting along great - 1,600 miles on a tank of gas - until I changed jobs and needed to buy a company car. The budget I had to work with allowed for a Chevy Cruze Eco, a Prius III, or something used that was economical. I got a 2012 Fusion Hybrid that I've driven about 7,000 miles in the last two months. So far, the car is a champ. Love the audio system, especially the sync connection with Pandora. Not the gas mileage I was getting in the Energi, but I'm on the road, not making short trips to the office and back. I drive the Energi for personal use when I'm home and love it. When my wife lets me have a turn, I love driving the Electric like a peppy little sports car. And I am comfortable, secure, and doing my part to be economical in the 2012 FFH when I'm on the road. Life is good! Edited June 22, 2014 by Gigi 4 hybridbear, jeff_h, acdii and 1 other reacted to this
