What ya Think?

Recommended Posts

My tires with 23K on them have about had it, thumping like crazy(at least I think its the tires). The traction in snow is horrible, so looking to replace them with LRR tires and thinking of downsizing to 17's. I loved the rims on my Flex so have been looking for something similar.

Wheels and Michelin Energy Savers mounted, balanced and TPMS, shipped, $1221.

Tried to post the picture, but it shows stock wheels.

Well I can only like them because as you might remember those are the same rims I have for my winter tires :)

The biggest question is how good are the Energy Savers in snow. Would they have the exact same tread design as the OEM one? I noticed the OEM GY RSA and the replacement had a totally different tread.

After seeing that I'm getting more wheel locks for sure. It will only be a matter of time before you head north trying for the "right set". :play:

I'm thinking about 17's too. Thanks for the info. I'd be interested in seeing what you think of them.

I'd like to find someone who would want to trade 17''s for 18's. I still have an extra set of 17's from my mustang and I don't need more wheels around. So many people have mustang wheels for sale that they don't bring much. Too bad I can't swap the tires between the fusion and the stang.

Me too! I want to go back to the 17-inch rims with their better fuel economy. I also don't really care for the look of the 18-inch rims. I've considered looking at junk yards, but I don't really know where to begin to do that search.

I like the look of the 18's, but they are hard to clean. I don't think the pay off in gas savings is enough to warrant the expense of buying replacement wheels and tires unless I could trade or find take-offs cheap. I think I'd spend more on replacements than I will spend on gas over a couple of years.

Maybe it would pay if I decide to get winter tires on 17's, but I don't expect too many winters like the last one (The odds seem pretty low) for a few years and we managed to get through it ok.

Well you had and go and say that didn't you? Hello winter of '15 ice age.

LOL. I hate to say this, but I actually enjoyed last winter. I like snow and we don't see too many winters like that one very often, so I really appreciated it and made the best of it while it lasted. (Yah, I go to Canada and ski in January, so I'm a real freak to my neighbors that take cruises to get away from the weather.)

I plan to get snow tires before next winter, and I dont see Michelin Energy Savers in 18" size. Hence the reason for new rims too.

I believe Tire Rack even says that 16 inch rims are an option for the FFH with snow tires. If we were to get snow tires we would do it with 16 inch rims to save cost.

I agree with tr7driver, I wouldn't spend any money to trade my 18 inch wheels for the 17 inch wheels. I'd only do it if I could sell my 18 inch wheels for the cost of the 17 inch wheels or more money (since they cost $500 extra originally). I'm thinking about trying to find another Fusion Hybrid owner locally who perhaps wanted the 18 inch wheels but when buying off the lot was only able to get the 17 inch wheels.

If I go snow tires, I'd go with dedicated winter tires instead of the Michelin all seasons. Thanks for the heads up on the 16's bear, that is probably the way to do it.

Thats my plan, One way or the other a second set of rims are needed for dedicated snows, and since Energy Savers to fit the FFH are only available in 17" then thats the route to take.
