dijital Report post Posted May 12, 2014 My first post as a long-time lurker in the FFH forums, so please be gentle. :) I've noticed an odd issue with the MFT navigation, and I'm trying to figure out how to troubleshoot, or if anyone else has seen this issue. I'm driving a 2013 HyTi. I'm in a Meetup group and once a month I drive to the next city over (About a 2 hour drive) for a meeting. The meeting is in an old church which Sync knows as a POI. I know the way, but usually set the nav anyway so I get traffic updates and ETA as I go. The problem is, if I start from home, MFT can't calculate the route. Or more precisely, she calculates it, gives me the nanny speech about obeying traffic laws, shows an ETA and highlights the route, then the screen blinks and the route is gone. If I click over to Nav, I get "Route Calculation Failed". Try again, same result. Weirder, if I start the route from anywhere other than my home neighborhood (like from work 10 minutes away), the calculation completes as normal and I have no further issues. I've tried searching for the place as a POI, entering the address manually, and having Services send the route to my nav. I even tried a nearby address in the same destination neighborhood. All have the same result. The dealership applied some TSB related to the GPS not being able to locate itself (the car shows itself off road, etc), but that had no effect. I even tried starting the route from elsewhere and driving near my house to see what happens. As soon as I get into my neighborhood, MFT gives up routing and cancels. I suspect that it's a map issue, but it's kinda frustrating. Anyone seen something similar?
jeff_h Report post Posted May 12, 2014 I suspect that it's a map issue, but it's kinda frustrating. Anyone seen something similar? Yes, I get this every time I visit a friend's neighborhood - when driving into their development I see a sign that says 'private road' and the navigation lady gives me the schpiel about "incomplete map data" which I assume is because their development does not have public (publicly-maintained) roads. Is your neighborhood a similar setup? 2 hybridbear and dijital reacted to this
GrySql Report post Posted May 12, 2014 (edited) I wonder if the newly available and updated A5 Nav Map card will fix that. It's a possibility. Edited May 12, 2014 by GrySql 1 dijital reacted to this

Is your neighborhood a similar setup?I've heard her mention "Incomplete Map Data" out in the boonies before, but never along this route. It goes along with what I suspect though, that there's data missing on the map whether Sync realizes it or not. It just seems an oddly specific set of circumstances. My neighborhood is on a public road and the maps *seem* to show the road correctly... Same with the destination. Edited May 13, 2014 by dijital
tr7driver Report post Posted May 13, 2014 You haven't accidently named your destination home or somehow given it a similar name to something else? I could see an instance where you tell to go there and it thinks you are already there.

I've also tried directly routing to it using a POI search, and through Services.

Hi dijital, Since you're able to to navigate to the church from other locations, perhaps the incomplete map data is near your home. Does the same thing happen if you enter a different address or POI while you're still in your neighborhood? Are you able to navigate to your home address from a different location? Do you receive any error messages when you get closer to home? Kim

Do you receive any error messages when you get closer to home? Kim Kim, I'd considered that too. I regularly start navigation from our driveway, and this is the only destination that seems to fail from home. I've never got an error routing to my home, or any route that passes through this neighborhood. It just seems to be any route that starts in my neighborhood, and ends 2 hours away in this church's neighborhood. Here's the even weirder thing. Starting at that church and routing home... never a problem. (I know, right? Totally baffling... )

Starting at that church and routing home... never a problem. (I know, right? Totally baffling... ) I'm stumped! It's hard to tell if the issue is with the map information, the navigation system, or some other type of interference. Do you mind sending your VIN, mileage, and best phone number in a PM? Please include the address of the church as well. I'll document your concern and let you know what I recommend as far as troubleshooting goes. dijital Report post Posted June 30, 2014 UPDATE: I just got a voicemail from the Ford Vehicle Technology Support Center. Based on the case that Kim opened for me, they were able to determine that the issue lies with the mapping software itself. Not only were they were able to reproduce the issue I was seeing, but they're currently working on a fix that will be applied with a future Nav system update. Thanks again for your help, Kim! :yahoo:  4 GrySql, hybridbear, corncobs and 1 other reacted to this
