Michael Crowe Report post Posted March 8, 2014 (edited) So I have been in the market for a new car for years, but I could never make up my mind on what I wanted but have had my eye on a FFH for the last 2. I have been reading these forums for a while now and with all the information I gathered decided to give in a just test drive one and loved it. I was originally just looking to get an SE with 502A but wanted Touch, ACC and BLIS. Unfortunately I could not find one with just those features. My dealer though happened to have a HyTi with ACC, BLIS, Moonroof, APA, Nav, and inflatable rear seatbelts. I really don't think I will ever use the APA but after years of waiting I did not want to deal with a custom order and I simply had to have the car. So I introduce myself as one who has been cruising these forums for a while now and is now a HyTi owner :D Edited March 8, 2014 by Michael Crowe 1 acdii reacted to this

B25Nut Report post Posted March 8, 2014 Michael, it sounds like you are a very happy owner. I hope that silently hanging around here for more than a year makes your transition to a hybrid easier. Like most of us here, I hope that very soon you conclude that purchasing the FFH is one of the best decisions you have ever made. What color is your HiTi? 1 hybridbear reacted to this
corncobs Report post Posted March 8, 2014 Pictures ? I mean they all the "same" but it's still fun to see the pride and joy of a new owner. Congrats and welcome. 1 hybridbear reacted to this

One nice benefit of APA is that you have front parking sensors which work all the time just like the rear parking sensors. They are really helpful when pulling into and backing out of parking spaces. APA isn't something that was high on our list, but now is a feature that we're really glad to have.

acdii Report post Posted March 8, 2014 Welcome Fellow HyTi owner! I was just commenting earlier this morning to my wife that I am so glad we didn't wreck our HyTi that day. I can not find another HyTi anywhere in the used market. I do believe those who get them hang on to them. Great cars! 1 hybridbear reacted to this

So I introduce myself as one who has been cruising these forums for a while now and is now a HyTi owner :DI didn't order APA because I have only parallel parked maybe 1/2 dozen times in the last 10 years, so it isn't something I'd use. Then this past December my step-son and grandson moved to Fort Lauderdale, and I end up picking the grandson up at school most afternoons. Of course, the parents are lined up way early, so the only way to park and pick him up is to, what else? Parallel park, of course!I'm happy to report that growing up in New York City and parallel parking literally every day for 15 years developed a skill I never lost. I still amaze myself at how easily I fit my car into any space that will accommodate it. A couple of times, one of the parents watched me park, and commented on "what a gift I have!" 2 corncobs and hybridbear reacted to this
Michael Crowe Report post Posted March 9, 2014 (edited) Thanks guys! I will try to get some pictures this afternoon :D @djminfll - I feel like I am in the same boat, I could not tell you the last time I had to parallel park, but when I had to I always felt I was decent. I did not realize however that the front sensors were a result of APA. They come in handy getting the car into the garage. I have a tight fit due to stuff stored in the garage and it gets me in exactly the right spot. Color is Ingot Silver. I was really looking for a black one, but the one I test drove was Silver and I thought it looked pretty slick. Considering that the dealer had the silver HyTi with all the features I really wanted, I decided I could do without the black. (Unfortunately I live in Michigan and the roads are terrible and all the snow is starting to melt so after one day of driving it could already use a wash... all the money I'll be saving in gas will be re-routed to keeping the car looking pretty :) ) Edited March 9, 2014 by Michael Crowe 1 djminfll reacted to this

djminfll Report post Posted March 11, 2014 (edited) Michael Crowe, you said "I have a tight fit due to stuff stored in the garage and it gets me in exactly the right spot." That reminds me of a funny line by some English comedian a few years ago: "Only in America do you keep your garage filled with boxes of junk, and keep your $30,000 automobiles in the driveway!"And, BTW, since I didn't get APA, I use the trick where I hang the tennis ball on the string and drive into the garage until the tennis ball touches the windshield. corncobs Report post Posted March 11, 2014 Backing into your garage works also very well with rear sensing system and backup camera. ;) I might have 5" to spare on the passenger side. 1 hybridbear reacted to this
acdii Report post Posted March 11, 2014 I use rubber stop blocks in my garage, they look like mini parking lot curbs and made from recycled rubber. They usually tay in place, but when you drive in with snow gook and it melts, the sand or other dirt tends to get under the block so they move a bit. They do have the option of being fastened to the floor, which I might do some day, if I ever get around to clearing out the junk. 1 hybridbear reacted to this
hermans Report post Posted March 11, 2014 I use two 42" traffic cones. I can move it back and forth depending how far up or back I want to park in the garage. Sometimes they doubles as a stay he__ out of my driveway cone.
Michael Crowe Report post Posted March 11, 2014 So slowly learning the ins and outs of the car... but I have a few questions for owners with APA or rear sensors and for those with a HyTi... So when I am traveling slow, the rear and front sensors will come on, and a screen will come up showing that front or rear sensors are "on" with the option to turn them off. However if I go into settings it shows that they are "off" If I switch them to "on" and go back into the settings they are still "off." Is this a quirk where this settings is really just their current state? (I don't have any intention of turning them off, just though it was strange while I was going through everything). Second, I have the Sony system in surround mode, however when you get a call or do anything through sync, I believe it auto kicks you back to Stereo mode and when you are finished it goes back to surround mode (sometimes), other times it does not and I have to switch it back manually. Is there a specific reason for this, or a fun bug? Have to say though, that I love the car, and got EV+ for the first time coming home today :D
murphy Report post Posted March 11, 2014 There have been many reports of the Sony system dropping out of surround mode. To my knowledge no one has figured out what causes it to happen.

Turning the sensors off (front or back) in that window appears to only disable them temporarily.

Turning the sensors off (front or back) in that window appears to only disable them temporarily.This. Its an option for you to quiet then temporarily when backing up or going forward in the event they will be going on for a while. For the most part this would be used if you have a trailer attached. Since its embedded in any vehicle with PA, its just part of the programming. My F150 and Flex both had this option come up when backing up, so may not just be tied to APA.
