Wife's Birthday Ruined Thx Ford..Updated

Took the wife and kids out for dinner tonight, car drove fine from the house to the restaurant. In the reasturant about an hour, tried to remote start the car from in the building and got no start beeps from the remote but didnt think much of it at the time.

We all got loaded in the car and went to start it and got nothing but a check engine light the car would not start. Collision system not working light came on and check engine light stayed on, but no ready to drive light.

So needless to say we spent an hour waiting for the tow company and then had to get someone to come pick us up, the tickets i had purchased for an event months ago went to wast becouse we missed the start and had no way to get there or home.

I have owned Mazdas since 2003 and never once did either of them quit on me never mind having to go into the shop 5 or 6 times in the first year of ownership. The ford currently has 6236 miles on it, there should be no issues.

Really sorry for having that happen to you. Not a nice time at all.

It will be important for everyone to find out what caused this issue. Maybe there was a work around that might have got the car to at least be driven? There is nothing worse than sitting there helpless when it worked fine getting you there.

Thx guys, it was towed to the dealer lastnight. Going to get over there first thing this morning and let the service dept know exactly what happened. I will keep you posted on the outcome.

It is sort of odd that we've had three posts in the last month with cars that won't start. (Tonarely, VAuthor and this)

Each of the three have about 5,000 to (in this case ) 6,300 miles on them.

What a coincidence.

This bears watching to see if there is a common cause.

Sorry to hear about your issues, and yeah that sure leaves a bad taste in one's mouth. We're on the other side of the coin, where back in 2004 we replaced the transmission on her Mazda 626 for the second time with only 65k miles on the car and that was enough for us, so we went to Ford and have not had any real issues in oiver 300k miles among the Fords that we've had since that time.

Only 300K? Shoot I put that many miles on a 1979 LTD wagon itself. I wouldnt be surprised if i added up all the miles I put on Fords in my years of driving that it comes close to 1,000,000 miles. There is 600K just between the 1979 LTD, Grand marquis and F350. I have put at least another 120K on the two Crown vics I had.

 

In all those miles I have had a few instances of being stranded, but turned out to be nothing too serious, two times was a bad fuel pump. Since 2010 only one car(except she who shall be forever known as BD) had a check engine light come on while driving, and that was my first FFH, but it still kept running. None since 2010 have left me stranded though, so I am surprised that yours did.

I suppose the right thing to do would be to start another thread about the joy of getting my first ever Hybrid, however I think here is a good place to start.

Funny thing is that now I really do have mixed feelings about picking up my car tomorrow, not that I don't want to, rather it's more like what have I gotten myself into?

I read the posts about the battery saver and now here with this issue and I have to wonder and even worry a little bit. Yes reading everything here and gaining knowledge is power, but when "it" happens, or if it happens I will have second thoughts.

 

Do Toyotas have similar issues? I have not gone there and won't because I made the commitment to go with the Fusion. No I have driven one yet, and I did not I didn't even test drive a regular Fusion. Was that a wise move - time will tell.

 

I just turned in my 2011 Explorer this afternoon. Did the same thing with it - never drove it either and I loved it. No problems, no issues other than having to upgrade software from time to time. Due to financial restraints - my other half is unemployed at the moment and reducing expenses was an option to consider. The dealer made it easy too, offering me a good deal and of course seeing 71 mpg packaged in a great looking car and I was smitten. So tomorrow my new life as a Hybrid owner starts.

 

Let the games begin and let's hope the playing field stays level and I have no issues.

Just picked the car up from the dealer, here is what I got.

Ck vehicle, no start pushed in, ck battery ok, ck oasis and tsbs, retrieved code P1595 with Tsb associated 13-04-04 Reprogramed RTM and BCM cleared codes rechecked ok, needs drive cycle to complete repair, customer to drive.

 

So it looks as they reprogrammed the Radio and the Body control module. Time will tell, but my love of the car is quickly fading.

It still needs to go back for the Fuel fill door that wont open again!

The rattling in the passenger side door.

The rattle in the dome light area.

The loss of one touch window controls at random

The battery saver message again after the tsb that was already done for that!

Seems like a lot of issues for a car thats 10 months old and has 6200 miles on it.

 

Thanks to everyone for your help.

I guess the worst of it is my wife had her bday cut short and we are out $350 worth of tickets for the 4 of us.

Oh by the way thx again Ford........ :(

I had my Prius between 2005-2009 and was on priusonline.com on a regular basis, I think they still had the edge of threads and posts about 12V batteries going dead unexpectedly, I don't know why they use such wimpy 12V batteries in hybrids but smart engineers know best... right?

 

Anyway, from the above post glad that Osofast is back in business again!

I can tell you that the Battery Saver message has a direct affect on your one-touch windows. You can set the windows and they will crash when the BS message comes on.

Hermans that does not seem to be the case for me, i get the bs message almost everyday 2 times a day more so when its colder out than when it is warm. My windows maybe fine for weeks and then i will loose one of them usually the passenger or the drivers side, but ocassionaly one of the rears also.

I feel so necked. Like walking off a plank and no return as I venture into the world of almost Green with the hope that the sky stays Blue. Sunshine, sunshine and lots of rays and none of those old nasty days that happen here.. Let there be light, but please, not on display. ;(

Go ahead and research ANY product on the internet and you'll find problems ranging from nit-picking to annoyances to outright horror stories. Also, you must remember that a great majority of satisfied customers don't post anything about their experiences. Those that do resort to posting are often doing so to vent their frustration. I feel for the OP here - you pay this much for a product and you expect a level of reliability. Every product has a "reliability score" (not necessarily a specific term here, but rather a concept. Think of it as a percentage. If that score falls too low, the manufacturer/seller must respond, or risk losing sales as word spreads. Unfortunately, there probably isn't any car you can buy that will achieve a reliability score of 100%. That is the current reality, and it will likely remain a reality for a long time, for various reasons. Modern cars are complex - put together from many components that are themselves similarly complex. The point is, that each of these components has a reliability score, too. We can only hope that when our products fail, that they don't do so prematurely, and they don't leave us in a precarious situation, or worse, harm us.

 

Ever had a flat tire? Go out to your driveway and the tire is flat? No problem. Go out to your driveway and the tire is flat and you have a job interview in an hour? Might be a problem. Tire goes flat on an expressway in 18 degree weather? Well, you get the idea. This is not to belittle the OP's issue - I think it sucks and I sure hope it doesn't happen to me! But, I also understand that it can and does happen... fingers crossed, if it helps!

 

Addendum: Oh yeah, now to start a thread on a problem that I've been having... ;)

Interesting. First time onsite. Purchased our FFH the day after Xmas. Took off on a interstate trip just to take the vehicle out on the road and get familiar with it.

One morning I remote started the vehicle-love that feature-when I went to the vehicle it was totally defrosted with the exception of the driver's side mirror which still had a coating of ice. I later found that the rear passenger window didn't open. When I returned from my trip I took the car into the dealership and they told me there were no issues. Any chance they reset the BS or were they possibly just BSing me? My wife and I checked the window function several times so I know I wasn't imagining that issue. The vehicle is garaged so the mirror issue probably wouldn't have been noticed. Is the defrost of the mirrors and say the rear windows associated with the BS?

FYI- so far we love this car! We have 2800 miles already but the bulk have been freeway. We are getting 39.4. Our worst mileage is in our suburban area that is hilly but has expressway like conditions that don't allow us to pick up speed real slowly. Hope to figure out some improvements but to paraphrase another poster-39.4 driving 70mph is better that I have ever done and this car is a pleasure to drive!

If you have the option - the side mirrors do not defrost unless the rear wind defroster is on. That is normal operation and has no correlation with the BS message.

The rear defrost may be set to off for remote start. If it works when the car is in normal operation, then that is most likely the problem.
