bsondhi Report post Posted December 1, 2013 Hi Friends I just bought a Fusion Ford Hybrid. It was a brand new right off the truck. They are detailing it now and will pickup tomorrow :) It is aSunset502A,Tech Pack (MFT)Navigation Keyless Start Got it for $28800 + tax/doc (After all discounts and rebates) Few questions 1. Dealer is trying to sell me a maintenance plan for 6 years for $2100 can be used at any Ford dealer. Is this something worthwhile? 2. Is there any maintenance required for electric part? 3. How do I check for DRL? I heard lot of folks had to ask dealer to turn it on. 4. After coming home, I see the dealer tacked another 227 on after negotiated price for some etching. It was never discussed and I was in a rush so did not do my math over there. Sleepy head me. Any suggestions on how can I negotiate this? :sos: Thanks Peace Bhupi
Sleddog Report post Posted December 1, 2013 (edited) The etching is probably for the glass. Check the bottom edge of the windshield, they probably etched it there. It's an anti-theft thing. And it's pure profit for them. I doubt you will get a refund for that. The 6 year maintenance plan, for 2100... Well that may be worth it, what is the mileage limitation on it? Or is it 6 year unlimited. My dealer gave me a 3 year maintenance, 36,000 mile (I'd have to check to be sure) program at no cost. It you decide to take the maintenance program, I would have them take the cost of the etching off it. As for the DRL. Start it, put it in drive with the headlights off, and have some one look at the lights. They should be on at a lower power. As for the what needs to be checked electrically, check the maintenance schedule in your manual. It should be somewhere around page 433. Overall, the multi-point inspection covers what needs to be done. But there is really nothing special that needs to be done. At 100,000 miles you need to have the engine AND the electronic coolant system fluid changed. Edited December 1, 2013 by Sleddog
hybridbear Report post Posted December 1, 2013 First off, congrats on your new car and welcome! Electric motors require no maintenance. They have 1 moving part and are much more reliable than any fossil-fuel burning engine. What exactly is covered by the maintenance package? It's likely a complete waste of money. The FFHs only need oil changes every 10k miles. Your maintenance cost should be about $30-$40 every 10k miles for oil change & tire rotation. Every 20k miles you'll likely want to change the engine air filter. The filter costs less than $20 and you can likely do it yourself as it's the easiest filter change I've ever seen. Changing the filter should take less than 5 minutes. The cabin air filter is a bit more work to change, but you can still do it yourself if you're up to it. Cabin air filters are often overlooked for maintenance. Add in wipers once a year for $35 and that's all the maintenance you should need. All said and done, 6 years of routine maintenance should only cost you less than $600 over 6 years. Thus, that plan sounds way overpriced. Few questions 1. murphy Report post Posted December 1, 2013 My rule of thumb. If they didn't expect to make a profit on the plan they wouldn't be selling the plan.
bsondhi Report post Posted December 1, 2013 Thanks Guys - I will pick up the car later today. Let's see what they say. I am a transplant from Japanese cars and such deals have been pitched to me over there also and I have always refused but just wanted to be sure if there is something I need to do. My buddy has regular 2012 Ford Fusion and all he has to do is oil change at 10K (as you mentioned). BTW, I must say I compared FFH with Toyota Camry Hybrid. TCH does not compare anywhere in quality, fit and finish to FFH. Great work done by Ford after all these years. 3 jeff_h, hybridbear and B25Nut reacted to this
bsondhi Report post Posted December 2, 2013 Thanks Guys. I was able to get them remove the etching costs and declined the maintenance plan based on what I saw in the manual. For folks - It was $2100 for 6yr/100K all scheduled maintenance. BTW, on drive home I achieved 47.6mpg. Blew my expectations. 2 acdii and jeff_h reacted to this

djminfll Report post Posted December 3, 2013 welcome to the Forum, congrats on your new car!I'm glad to hear that they refunded you for the etching - it is illegal to just add things on without your approval, but if they just added it to your bill and you signed for it, it would be pretty hard to prove you didn't know agree to it.I love the Sunset color, good choice on your part, when are you going to post some pictures? Just curious, did you get the S, or SE? 2 bsondhi and hybridbear reacted to this

Thanks BhupiIt sounds like you measure up pretty good! $28-29K + taxes is not bad. The only thing i would do differently (actually, what I DID differently) was I didn't get the Nav system, especially since MFT does nag w/o the system; and I love Adaptive Cruise Control. But I do wish I had push-button start, and of course, the Sunset color. MSRP on sticker was $33180; I ended up at $30K including taxes, so it sounds like we both fared about the same. acdii Report post Posted December 11, 2013 Now that I have the Nav, and used it a few times, glad I have it. It takes some getting used to its timing, but eventually I got the hang of it and it leads me where I need to go.
jtbogus Report post Posted December 12, 2013 The VIN glass etching should be on every piece of glass on the car. Most insurance companies will give you a discount if you can prove it's there (picture might do it). I did it myself to all of my cars and the rebates added up. Check our the Ford ESP long term maintenance plans, they are heavily discounted on the web. This is from Flood Ford < http://www.floodfordesp.com/buy_now.php?MakeID=1&ModelID=Select+Model+...&ModelID=15&SELECT_Model2=&SELECT_Model3=&VehicleYear=2010&x=13&y=10 >. Good luck and have fun! bsondhi Report post Posted December 14, 2013 Do these Ford ESP include maintenance? The one I was offered at the dealer was for maintenance but when I looked at the maintenance log there was not much to do. I usually go to my local shop, bring my own parts and have the car serviced there. Toyota and Honda's do not negate the warranty as long as I can show them the maintenance proof not sure how it is with FORD.
