MFT 3.6 Listen to TEXT broken

Recommended Posts

I updated to MFT 3.6 and have lost the ability to listen to text messages. Someone posted directions to get it working several months ago for MFT 3.5. If someone remembers the topic please post it. I've tried search and can't find it.

Thanks

I can only tell you what I had to do for my Samsung Galaxy S II to get it working.

1. Pair the phone for voice calls.
2. Turn the car off.
3. If your phone is password protected get past the password so the phone is ready to use.
4. Put phone in your left hand (if you are right handed).
5. Put the car in run mode.
6. Watch the top bar on the phone for one or two icons to appear.
7. There may or may not be an accompanying beep.
8. Pull down the top bar so the icons will expand.
9. Select a message to open it.
10. Click the box to remember your response.
11. Click the allow response.

There were two requests for my phone.
One for the contacts and one for text messaging (MAP).

Once I got both of those approved text messaging works fine.

It is also broken on my Motorola Droid X2. All works except for the text which worked Saturday before I did the sync update. Now when I select messaging from the phones configuration screen it say my phone does not support Bluetooth texting. It is sad that an "upgrade" breaks something that worked well before. Also, I got the droid since my older phone would not always ring in the car. The voice text for me was a cute toy to show but still wish it would work. Any other ideas are appreciated. Now to Google.

GrySql found this for me. This worked on MFT3.5 for me.

"The main things I am stoaked about so far is the speed, better navigation destination screens, simplied voice commands for music, and the iPhone compatibility. I can confirm that recieving text messaging does finally work, however sending sadly is still not compatible it appears. The way I got this to work for all you iPhone users out there who have been as frusterated as me is the following steps. Unpair Sync and your iPhone. Turn Bluetooth off on your iPhone and turn off the phone. I also turned off the Fusion at this point and turned off and on MFT to be safe, but this might not have been required. Turn back on your iPhone and MFT and repair the devices. Once your iPhone is paired, go to your bluetooth settings on the phone and click the blue options arrow on the right side of the "Sync" item. You will see "Show Notifications", flip that to ON. Then turn off MFT and back on again (I believe you just probably need to disconnect and reconnect the phone). Now go to phone on MFT and click messaging, it should finally let you in to the screen. Recieving and reading text messages will work, which includes iMessages".

Even after applying these directions I still can't receive text messages on MFT 3.6. So maybe something is broken or just different, I'll just have to look around in settings to see if I missed something. If anyone solves the mystery please post it and I will do the same.

I just did the procedure and my iPhone 5 iMessages are coming thru on the MFT (that's the only messaging I have). Sync will even read the message. I still can't send messages, shows it fails every time. But that's ok. Just getting them is a plus.

I read that instead of having MFT read and send messages, you can talk directly to Siri through the car and Siri will read and send messages.

Apple still doesn’t use the right “programming language” to allow it to interface with Ford’s text-to-voice text messaging. However, you should be able to hold the “Home” button on the face of your iPhone 5 (or 4S) for a few seconds. You will hear an unusual tone. Then speak your command to the vehicle’s microphone. For example, “Read Text Messages.” You will hear Siri from your iPhone speaking your messages. You can ask her to “Send Text Message” and she will guide you through that process. Press and hold the “Phone” icon on your steering wheel for a few seconds to “hang up” Siri.

Here is a nice video from our friends at Lebanon Ford on Using Siri

Update to my above post.

I retried the above directions and now the text to voice works. I don't know what I did differently but now it works.

The text to speech with my iPhone 4S was working before the Sync v3.6 update. Speech to text did not.

After the Sync update, the text to speech did not work after re-pairing the same iPhone 4S.

I went into bluetooth settings on the iPhone 4S and clicked the blue option arrow on the right side of the "Sync" item. I flipped "Show Notifications" to ON.

The text to speech now works again.
