rjent Report post Posted June 16, 2013 (edited) I know I probably should have put this in Pet Peeves, but I would like a discussion on this subject .... :) We are having a marvelous time in our HyTi, and love the car, but ..... The Navigation system is just a plain POS. I have had better routing, finding of waypoints, and usage with a 150 dollar Nuvi. We paid 900 dollars for this unit and it is sometimes totally unusable. Honestly, is anyone else as dissatisfied with the Nav system as we are? :angry22: I honestly should have known better knowing Microsoft was the driving force behind it .... Edited June 16, 2013 by rjent
fusionTX Report post Posted June 16, 2013 I have used the navigation in Houston and in Florida, and have not had any issues. I have never used waypoints, though. I just put in my destintation, and it gets me there. 1 coach81 reacted to this

JimArch Report post Posted June 16, 2013 So far I'm pretty satisfied with my nav, still checking it out here. What kind of specific issues are you having, or general disappointment?
rjent Report post Posted June 16, 2013 OK, it may be a New Mexico thing .... you know where the pavement ends and the West begins kind of thing. The unit has tried to put us on logging roads (4x4), can't find whole towns that exist (at least on the map LOL), ect. I will keep working with it. I know if we were in LA or other metro places it would work fine, but I have never had this problem with the portable GPS's ....
djminfll Report post Posted June 16, 2013 One of the reasons I special ordered my car is because I DIDN'T want the Nav system in the car. I love having a portable TomTom that is easy to use, and can be taken into a rental car when I travel, or someone else's car if I'm not driving. I had heard that the factory Nav system was not so reliable. 1 gadgetguy reacted to this

I wanted it because of the screen and I special ordered it that way. i thought, meh how hard is GPS navigation now, pretty proven technology. I guess it is just too much for Bill .... rico567 Report post Posted June 16, 2013 I don't know why it is that so many people find nav systems in currently produced cars unsatisfactory. The high-end nav system VW uses some people find to be a POS as well. Almost invariably, these people make invidious comparisons to their Garmin or Tom Tom. We have a pretty ancient Garmin that works great....so since we'll be special ordering, I'll just exclude the nav system too.
hermans Report post Posted June 16, 2013 No problems what so ever with the navigation and I put mine through it's paces when I got it. It's never crashes (as others have reported) and it's never steered me wrong. It will even find me someplace to eat in a strange town.
storksb Report post Posted June 16, 2013 My NAV system works great in my FFH, here in northern Virginia. Not sure you can blame Microsoft for the NAV, is this part provided by NAVTEQ?

jsolan Report post Posted June 16, 2013 I'd like to complain with you because I didn't really want the nav originally, but I love it. A few times it makes a couple of odd choices for routes I already know, but it's super easy to tell it to avoid those roads. The POI choices are kind of confusing at times because the addresses aren't shown and the arrows don't seem to point to the heading of their location (I assumed an arrow pointing forward meant the POI was ahead of me, I think it means it's north of me, but I'm still not sure). Those are really my only complaints so far. The timing of when to turn is the best I've ever used. When traveling unfamiliar roads with multiple turning options, the "double ding" has saved me from making wrong turns on more than one occasion. fusionTX Report post Posted June 16, 2013 It's also nice that turns that are coming up are shown on you right-side lcd screen, so you don't have to take your eyes off the road much
JimArch Report post Posted June 16, 2013 (edited) I've been choosing to put in my desired destination street addresses via voice commands, just seems easier than typing onto the screen. The navi woman and I struggle a bit to get the address into the system properly at times, but I attribute this to me needing to learn more about how the info exchange works. So far she hasn't gotten irritated at me, but I can confess that she has been "listening" to my perturbed voice a few times. Please say yes or no...YES! Not sure you can blame Microsoft for the NAV, is this part provided by NAVTEQ?This is my 3rd vehicle with Ford navigation as an option. Navigating with Navteq has occasionally been what my wife calls "a mokee adventure" when using it on local roads in rural areas off of the Interstate. :shift: I sometimes check unknown destinations in Navteq against my Garmin or android Google Navigation so I don't have to listen to her. hermans Report post Posted June 16, 2013 One I found the proper way to do it, I like to speak my destinations. When friends are in the car, it's a great show and tell item.

These were one car-width dirt and gravel roads and the navigation never missed a step. I love it.

elle Report post Posted June 16, 2013 (edited) I always use voice commands. The biggest problem I have is that when there are people in the car, they want to talk and joke around with the navigation system while I'm giving it commands, and that will throw everything off. I have come close to strangling my husband over this a couple of times. Edited June 16, 2013 by elle 2 gadgetguy and hybridbear reacted to this
rjent Report post Posted June 16, 2013 OP - have you taken yours in to get fixed? You didn't say in your post.Yes sir I have. Just a couple of weeks ago. While arriving in Ruidoso we tried to put in the address of the condo. Which was 20345 US 70. I would only allow the 203 portion of the address, while clearly the numbers are clearly posted on the highway in both directions for miles. I found that odd. The dirt road suggestions we were able to cure by telling it to ignore them, but it just seems to me that since they don't want you using the touch screen for safety reasons, we seem to be using the touch screen for other things. I will try different routing preferences to see if that changes it's behavior. Thanks for the feed back. actually it makes me feel a little better about the unit and maybe it is just operational idiosyncrasies....
rjent Report post Posted June 16, 2013 OK, my wife suggested this. Would one of you guys or gals try to find "High Rolls, NM"? See if you unit finds it. Make sure you set your state to New Mexico!... As soon as I type in "h" "i" it gives me "Hillsboro" which is near where I live ..... I would appreciate it. :)

I don't know that this is a problem with the nav system itself, but rather the underlying map data that would provided by whoever that company was. Is this a place that you go to often? If you go there, I think you can save the current location on the map to address books or as a favorite... or maybe search for a location on the map itself and save as a destination and then add to address book, favorite, etc. Edited June 16, 2013 by jeff_h

Not much good if you can't find what you are looking for, particularly a place on the map with a zip code. Hummmm, OK yours does the same thing. I guess that is good news and bad news. good that there is nothing wrong with mine and bad that it can't find it. Thanks brother, I appreciate your help! :hi5: Same here - it autofills to Hillsboro.
