Mufasha Report post Posted February 18, 2013 When the care is first purchase (at least in my case) the Eco-cruise control in not activated, my mileage on my first trip (when i was ignorant that there was such a thing as eco cruise) was 35 mpg. I have yet to travel a great distance with the eco cruise activated but I am hoping/expecting for more then 35.

The mileage decline is about 2 mpg. per 10º F. lower temperature. The EPA tests can be done as high as 70º F. so if your temperature is now 20, the hit can be 10 mpg. When the temp. goes up to 95, you'll gain 5 mpg.
acdii Report post Posted February 18, 2013 Amazing the huge variance between the 2013 and the 2010-12 Hybrids. 10 MPG in the 13, but only 5 MPG in the 10.
MXGOLF Report post Posted February 18, 2013 I used the eco-cruise for my 550 mile trip. Like the whole way and got 38.6 MPG which I thought wasn't too bad. Car only has 1660 miles so far. That was my first highway cruise so far. That's just the cruise control correct? Meaning the eco cruise?
Fynack Report post Posted February 19, 2013 ECO Cruise barely has any factor in MPG. For the past few days Ive driven like a normal person , accelerating at 3-4k rpm and not even looking at the screen to see if im in EV node and I get 34.5mpg. I try my hardest to accelerate at 2k rpm and stay in EV mode and cruise as much as possible and I get 37-38mpg. Its fairly apparent to me that giving a darn and driving as Ford instructed isnt worth the distraction. at least for me.

I would love to have seen or been notified of this before making my purchase. Also ""When the temp. goes up to 95, you'll gain 5 mpg"" are you saying that we should get 53mpg? If so how is that so since even at 95F it still needs to warm to 160F to start EV mode (although it should be fairly quick). I have read comments in the C-Max forum from some people saying the regular crusise control does better than eco-cruise. Not sure if that is a general sentiment, but I have seen it expressed. Would be interesting to hear from FFH owners regarding this.

What is really sad is if you drive like this in a Toyota Prius, you can get up to 90 MPG. Screwed up is what I say.
JSKershaw Report post Posted February 26, 2013 What is the difference between Eco Cruise and regular cruise? I have tried both, but can't tell. Its hard to tell, but does Eco cruise take longer to get accelerate to the selected speed?
acdii Report post Posted February 26, 2013 What is the difference between Eco Cruise and regular cruise? I have tried both, but can't tell. Its hard to tell, but does Eco cruise take longer to get accelerate to the selected speed?Yes. If you go up a grade it will allow the car to slow up a bit and gradually increase up to the set limit. If you hit resume it will slowly accelerate the car, normally when you hit resume it will give it gas to quickly get up to the set limit. 1 JSKershaw reacted to this
MXGOLF Report post Posted February 27, 2013 So do we have both cruises on our car? I kind of don't think do but am just guessing. Ever since I first used the cruise it was eco cruise? Not like mine is going to get any better mileage anyway.
acdii Report post Posted February 27, 2013 There is adaptive cruise/collision warning, and there is Ecocruise. All hybrids have Eco cruise, ACC is an option.
Jmagg73 Report post Posted March 29, 2013 Yes it wasnt activated for me either. When i started toying around with the Mykey features i found it. It has made quite a difference in mpg. I've had the car for about a month now and the temp has been cold. I havent been able to get over 38mpg avg on a full tank of gas. Since ive been using ECO my mpg is around 42-43 mpg. Most of my 50 mile commute is flat highway. While in ECO cruise it will accelerate normally until the battery is near full and then it uses the battery to maintain the speed and also to make the small adjustments on inclines. The ECO Cruise is way more efficient on the battery life than your foot is.
tombarker13ffh Report post Posted March 29, 2013 IMHO, if you use cruise control you won't be impressed with your mpg, eco or not.
acdii Report post Posted March 29, 2013 That all depends on the driver. A NEWB will see much better MPG using the cruise than with the right foot until he/she has learned the tricks.
lolder Report post Posted March 29, 2013 A couple of years ago, after I was well familiar with the car, I did a 40 mile 70 mph interstate comparison with CC on and off. Off yielded 1 mpg more, definitely not worth the effort to me.
DeeCee Report post Posted March 29, 2013 IMHO, if you use cruise control you won't be impressed with your mpg, eco or not.I use Eco cruise most all the time and I am impressed with my mileage, 44.2 mpg lifetime to date, and slowly climbing. But, maybe Im am just easily impressed.

acdii Report post Posted March 30, 2013 Yeah actually I am right, The new Ecocruise is very good at getting better MPG than a heavy right foot can. On a long road trip the constant pedal play will get tiresome and then your MPG will drop, where the Ecocruise will continue to get its best possible MPG. Again, "all depends on the driver"!! lolder Report post Posted March 30, 2013 The BSFC chart on Prii ICE's shows the most efficient RPM to be between 2200 and 3500 rpm. See here:http://priuschat.com/threads/bsfc-challenge.55947/That's a smaller ICE than either FFH so I would guess the FFH sweet spot to be at a slightly lower RPM. tombarker13ffh Report post Posted April 1, 2013 I actually wrote more to that post but my internet quit and it wouldn't post. I've done well with eco cruise on long flat interstate trips, but I think it depends on where you drive. If I used cruise on my drive to work I bet I would get 40 mpg where I can get 50+ otherwise. I baby the pedal during warmup and ease off a lot depending on the terrain. I don't ever drive willy nilly though, I always try to maximize mpg. Its my favorite part of the day lol. Shows how exciting my job is.

So on extended interstate drives, especially hilly ones like around here, I use it quite a bit. But when I'm driving below 62 I can usually get more out of the car using my own foot. camelot Report post Posted April 6, 2013 I have hills and holes around here. The cruise compensates for the jump in my foot from the holes. But 1 thing I notice is, it keeps the ICE running longer going down a slight grade. I frequently hit cancel then right into resume and see the car go into ev mode right away. If let it stay in cruise, It goes to ev mode a quarter mile later. Just a trick I do.
