Daytime Running lights?

Recommended Posts

While we were on our road trip we saw dozens of Fusions, gas, hybrid & Energi. At least 2/3 of them had DRLs. I know that some were rentals because I spotted the barcode in the window and the prominent "no smoking" stickers, but I can't imagine that 2/3 of the Fusions on the roads are rentals or 2015s where the owner turned on the DRLs...

I couldn't care less about DRLs, but I would like to change out my puddle lights for LEDs. That's something I have to look up again on the forum. I love the puddle lights and just want them brighter.

We have a lot of readers who do their homework on this Forum. ;)

Wow, you saw DOZENS of Fusions? Well, there's the problem......you couldn't see the hundreds of thousands of other Fusions that didn't have their DRL's on! :love_shower:

The Explorer doesn't have the DRLs enable but should be the same principle as with the FFH.

I'm planning to ask my dealer (or another trip to Havard is coming up) about it but for now I bought a set of COB LED daytime running lights.

Something to play with ;)

Try this link, super bright LED pud lights. http://www.daytimebrightlites.com/Puddle_Lights_NL3C.html

I have these installed and the bright lighting is very welcome on dark nights.

I want to do this also as I changed the trunk and license plate lights already. Ford had to be difficult and seal the casing for the puddle lights. I feel daytimebrightlights.com charges too much for something like this. I am going to give it a shot myself. Basically you just need to cut the plastic clear top off, swap the bulb and then seal it back. I believe from what I read with other posts, the Hybrids do not have the flickering issue that has been reported.

I had another Fusion (ICE) owner ask me about the DLR's Monday. I followed him into a parking lot. He stopped and jumped out and told me I had something wrong with my headlights, he noticed one going off and then back on in his mirror as I went through a couple of intersections. I told him I had the DLR's turned on and so the conversation started. I Imagine he has joined the ICE fusion forum by now.

I was thinking of having DRL turned on in the MKT, but they are HID, so I dont think they even have them. I wanted to put HID in the HyTi, but then I would have to have DRL turned off. Gonna stick with the factory ones instead.

I was told its all done but they could not activate the lights as the module does not exist for my car. Not happy with that answer but I took the key and left.

[...]

So they did activate them and they even shut off for the proper turn signal which is nice. Not sure why the mechanic thought it didn't work but I got a good result in the end.

There are reports that Ford corporate is telling dealers that they may not enable DRLs. Perhaps this dealer did it for you on the sly, to keep you happy, but to deny having actually done it.

Good point. I am going to keep my mouth shut :whistling: .

Sorry I didn't see this sooner. The first generation of the DBL pud lights had a flickering problem, these new pud lights do not. So if you try it yourself then you just might have a flickering problem. The OEM pud lights are incandescent so flickering will not be noticeable. I think it's the added resistance/load of the filament that keeps the OEM system from flickering. I had issues with the first generation of the DBL pud lights flickering.

The new version doesn't because they added a resister to it. I saw in another forum website that someone said they did not need a resister and just swapped with a LED bulb on a 2014 Hybrid. I posted a link below. Post 51.

I went to my dearler for the day time running lights a couple month ago, after near two hours waiting , they couldn't turn it on, then my salesman (a good guy) tried hard to do the research on it with no luck .

I also called two dealers they todl they cant turn it on with many reasons....

Yesterday, I made a short trip to acdii's dearler , it took about 20 mins , my DRLs are on!! :love_shower:

Im so happy with it , now feel more safety on the road :)

I have an appointment for the Explorer DRLs to be turned on. I keep my fingers crossed that it will work if not acdii's dealer is getting a call again.

While you are there, please ask them it they can turn the DRL's on for a 2013 C-may Energi. It may be worth a side trip there if I'm in the area. (Or PM me their contact info)

No problem I will ask!

I was told the "old guy" will take look with the computer to see if it can be turned on.

If successful I will let you know otherwise acdii's dealer probably won't have a problem enabling them. Either way I will let you know.

If the Cmax has DRL, then chances are its the same solution since both the Fusion Hybrid and Cmax share a good majority of modules.

I had my DRLs turned on yesterday at Mike Naughton Ford in Denver. They charged $70.80.

Good ol' Mike Naughton Ford. I bought a new 1987 Mustang GT from them when I was stationed at Lowry AFB. Guess they still overcharge for everything! :)

What a bunch of thieves!

Do you have to pay to get into the restroom?

I took the FFH in for its 15,000-mile checkup and an oil change. When I asked them to turn on the DRLs, the service tech told me they'd have to go into the computer to do it. I told him some dealerships turn them on for no charge as a customer service and because it's a safety factor. He told me anytime they have to go into the computer they have to charge for it. I didn't argue, but I let him know I wasn't particularly happy. Anyhow, they're on, and that's what I wanted.

An update: the more I thought about it, the more upset I got. So I emailed Mike Naughton Ford's service department last Wednesday. I told them most dealers turn on the DRLs free of charge because it's a safety factor and it's good customer service. Someone replied that the equipment involved is expensive, and that the service tech has the equivalent of a master's degree in order to work on my car. But, having said that, they noted that I bought the car from them, and that I've been a loyal customer. So, they're refunding the $70.80 I paid to have the DRLs activated. The bottom line: even if it took a little effort, I think Mike Naughton Ford can be returned to the "good guy" list.
