2010 Fusion Radio becomes muffled

Recommended Posts

***THIS IS NOT RELATED TO THE SPEED SENSITIVE AUDIO VOLUME CONTROL*** I know what that is and how it works. It's a nice feature, but this is something else.

My 2010 Fusion SE 2.5L has just the standard single CD, non-SYNC, non-navigation stock radio. During my test drive in October 2009, my wife and I noticed that the radio volume would drop slightly (maybe one or two of the "bars") and become muffled. It did not matter whether we were stopped, driving, highway or arterial. We thought nothing of it, and bought a similar Fusion later that day. Our Fusion does the same thing as the tester.

This isn't too big of a deal, but I'll be driving down the road, the volume will drop a little (and become muffled), I'll turn it up a little, then after 15 seconds, the volume will become un-muffled and return to previous loudness, and I will need to turn it down a bit.

Anyone else experience this? I've had other non-Fusion owning passengers comment on the radio becoming quieter and muffled during rides, so I don't think I'm THAT crazy...

I have too, and come to think about it, it's the first car I've ever noticed it in. I've been chalking this phenomenon up to an overly sensitive radio, in regards to fluctuations in radio signal strength.

Do you have HD radio? I've noticed in my car that the sound changes as the HD signal goes in and out.

No HD either, just regular cheap stock radio. I think I'm just going to "overlook" the problem, as it isn't a big problem. Thanks for everyone's feedback!
