Using the Ford install instructions, I thought it was an easy install. Honestly programing the system is the hardest, and that's not really that bad..haha. I think it took me about half a day to do. Nope, no cutting....just tapping a few wires in the drivers kick panel, plugging the included wire harness into the car's plugs under the dash.

Thanks Chris :)....... where did you purchase yours from and did you have to get the pats kit as well ?

I got the part number and the install instructions for the complete kit off of Ford accessories, then I bought the kit from e-bay. A ford dealer has them for sale for a good price, and had the pats kit along with the fusion specific wire harness.

I have a 2010 Ford Fusion SEL. When I factory ordered the Fusion I had the remote start factory installed and they put in the Series 100, One-Button Remote Start System. Its a great but I want the Remote Start Bi-Directional 100 Series. The Bi-Directional remote has a range of 1000' feet , while the one-button remote only has a range of 750' feet. Also the new feature of the key fob letting you know if the vehicle has started is great. Im wondering if I change over to Bi-directional remote will I have to get an entirely new interface kit with it or will the current one be capable of working with the new unit. I want to avoid paying a ford mechanic $90+ and hour to just put in the same starter I already have. Let me know if its possible to do this.

Confirmed by my dealer. They even had to revise the manual. I don't think this was an intentional design, just one team of engineers not talking to another team. Oops. :finger:

It certainly is not the way remote start was intended. To shut off when you get into the car? No. When you step on the brake to shift into gear, yes, but not when entering the car.

I have read that any Ford vehicle with the MyKey system and a Ford OEM remote starter will shut down the engine when you open the door. This is a crude workaround due to design of the MyKey system that only detects which key is inserted (a restricted key or an admin key) at the time the engine is started. So if the car is remote started, then the computer would otherwise not detect if a restricted key is later inserted to drive the vehicle. This is resolved by forcing the driver to restart the vehicle with the key after they enter the car. I have read in other forums that some dealers know how to get around this, but it involves permanently disabling the MyKey feature. If you have no use for MyKey, then it might be worthwhile to inquire with your dealer. I would hope that Ford would fix this in some future version of the MyKey system. On the other hand, remote start users may be such a small market segment that they will just ignore it. I am otherwise happy with the factory installed "Powercode" remote in my 2011. It seems to have better range in some situations than the aftermarket Viper system in my old car. My Viper system was advertised as a 2500' range, but the actual range was reduced significantly, sometimes to less than a couple of hundred feet, in city areas that I presume had a lot of radio noise. The Ford Powercode seems to work fine in places where my Viper system struggled.

Understanding how corporations operate I think the answer is simple - remote start is an add-on and the folks who developed MyKey didn't take it into account when they designed the system - or the fix was too complicated or would have taken too long for the schedule. MyKey is relatively new and I'm sure it will eventually be addressed but since you have to put the key in the ignition anyway to drive the car after it's been remote started asking you to restart it (like you would do if you didn't have the remote start doesn't seem to be such a big problem.

Remote start programming 710620.pdf

Hi all

Just posted this yesterday on another forum, and yes it works on the mykey Fusions.

"Hi all

New to the forum thing, so bare with me.

Three weeks into owning my 2011 Fusion Sport AWD with all the bells and whistles, and LOVING IT.

Same thing with the factory autostart, open door and the car shuts off.

We can program the remote start without the dealer and the mykey still functions to a degree.

Quick explenation: If the mykey person only has the key, and not the starter remote, and are not allowed to use the remote start at all,

(they only have the car key to start the car with), mykey still works as it was meant to.

I know, my spelling, english and grammer are out the window.

I did mine yesterday and works like a charm. Open doors and still runs, push break and it shuts off, and i also changed run time from 10 min to 15 min.

Took me all of five minuts to do.

Im attatching the instructions (from FORD) has both mykey and non mykey instructions.

The program/override button and LED that you need to access is under the dash to the left side, straight up and to the back of the car.

It will be taped to the wire harness that comes from the start module. The LED is small but the button is about as round as a dime so easy to find. Dealer installed starters might be in a slightly differant spot.

IMPORTANT When your in step A) Getting into programming mode: follow accordingly and at step 4, when you release the programming/override button also release the break peddel.

in the option chart under bank 2, its number 7 you will want to change.

I also changed bank 2, number 3 (change if you want 15min run time)

As usual, it took me longer to read the instructions than it did to change what i needed to.

Happy motoring

BTW i also opened up the airbox similar to a cold air kit, works and sounds the same as my explorer with the K&N kit. took a whole 15 min. anyone interested, let me know."

A big thank you to redsvt2001 for the post above. I am happy to report that I successfully used these instructions to reset the options on my factory installed Powercode remote start. With bank 2, option 7 set to "off", the engine stays running when opening the door. Insert key, turn to "run", and go. Engine shuts down if brake is pressed with no key inserted. I also set the horn honk option to "off", since I try not to wake the neighbors when I leave for work at 5:00. All I can say is whohoooo! Obviously these are pretty small things in the bigger picture of having a great new car, but there is just some extra level of satisfaction when things just work the way you want them to work.

As stated by redsvt2001, after you take a few minutes to read and understand the directions, the actual process takes a couple of minutes at most. Hardest part is physically accessing the programming button, since the doors have to be closed while you are doing it. I am 6'2", so getting my body into position to see the button and LED and reach a hand up under the dash while the doors were closed was not easy I can tell you. Not a job for someone with back problems. I found reclining the driver's seat as far as it would go helpful. Maybe there is a trim panel you can remove to make it easier to reach, but I didn't.

On the MyKey thing, although I have not personally tried it yet, the owner's manual does have instructions for setting up the remote start system like a restricted MyKey. So then whenever the vehicle is started remotely (using either key fob), the MyKey restrictions would be in effect. To get the car out of the resticted mode, you would have to shut off the engine and restart it with an admin key. Easiest is probably as discussed by redsvt2001, just don't give a restricted driver the remote start fob. Then they can only start with their restricted physical key.

One other note - if your cell phone is too far from the car when it is started, then the bluetooth will not automatically link up with the sync system. You have to manually initiate the bluetooth link once you get in the car. This may be another reason why the factory default is to force a shutdown and restart of the engine once you get there. One might argue that restarting the car is easier than clicking the buttons to establish the bluetooth link. I prefer clicking a couple of buttons rather than restarting the engine. On the nav screen, I can have the phone linked in three clicks. But, you have to remember to do it, so not everyone will like this.

Thanks again to redsvt2001 for your detailed directions.

The dealer threw in the remote start when I bought my 2011 Fusion Hybrid last week. When I first approached the dealer, I told them I was looking for a FFH with a particular leather and color, and the 502A package, with all the bells and whistles, including the remote start system. I was going to order the Hybrid and wait, but they found one at a dealership 200 miles away. So, they simply transferred the car to the dealership, and it was exactly the one I wanted- sterling gray with black leather interior- with one exception: it didn't have the remote start system. I guess the dealer felt guilty since there were really no incentives for this vehicle and since it already had 200 miles on it, so they offered to throw in the remote key & installation for free. I was very happy about that, even though I could have really cared less about that feature.

Well, when I went to pick up the car, the salesman was attempting to show me how it works, and nothing happened. He looked really puzzled, and kept pressing the button. Then, I reminded him that it was a HYBRID, and therefore it made no sound. He slapped his forehead and apologized, and told me that he had never sold a FFH with Remote Start before. It was pretty funny... Anyway, the Remote Start works well in the FFH, but I need to warn you that it is not a really thrilling feature because it is so darned ....quiet. You just don't get the ignition and revving sound like other remote start systems get. I know that sounds like a dumb qualm, but I never really cared about that feature in the first place, so I can comment with subjectivity.

It is silent. You still have to use your key to unlock the car. You still have to insert the key into the ignition and turn on the car. ...It is still silent.

If you live in Fargo, SD and your winters are below freezing every morning, I would suggest this feature wholeheartedly. But if you live in a temperate climate like I do (Hampton Roads, VA), then you really don't need to waste the money on this feature. It won't impress your friends, it won't get you excited. It will just add another member to your keychain and really serve no purpose for about 358 days a year....

I just bought a 2011 FFH used with 3500 miles. It has the remote start that works (but I don’t know what kind). There is a small additional FOB- like button attached to the key that is 1/4" think, 1" wide and 1 1/4" long. It has a Lo Jack sticker on it and the car does have Lo Jack so it may have something to do with that. You start the car with the Ford Key Fob pressing the lock button 3 times. Does anyone know how to tell what kind it is or where the car based electronics are located so I can check?

I had the Ford dealer install a remote starter on my 2013 FFH today. I didn't really see the point of the bi-directional remote for an extra $50. While not a lot of money in the grand scheme of things, these starters are pretty accurate and they usually start when you press them. The standard Ford remote also works with the climate control system.

I bought the option in my '13. I got into trouble with my '10 when I had the dealer do the enhanced perimeter alarm and then added the 2-way remote start. They did not play well together and they set off the alarm when remote starting. I had to tear the start back out before trading the car.

I assume it was a 3rd party remote? If it is, do you know what one they put in. I'm in the same position and looking for high reliability w/ fewer features.

Remember that it can pre-cool the car too. It is very useful in the high 90s here in Houton.

I used to park in a corner of the garage at work that I could reach to start it on the way out to go home.

I just ordered the Ford model # DS7Z-19G364-A one-way series 100 remote start kit for my new 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid and was just wanting to check with anyone that has installed this or had it installed by a dealer or came from the factory where your antenna for this system is located. Not sure where to mount the antenna for this system, my car has the rain sense wipers and the driver assist lane keep camera located in a large windshied mounted black box behind the rearview mirror. Does this antenna go beside this box, below the box or inside of this box or somewhere else. Also does anyone know how to remove this box from the windshield without damaging it, just trying to maske this look as much like a factory install as possible, please advise. Also if anyone could post some pictures of where this antenna is mounted that would be great.

Thanks,

gmarshall
