Trunk cargo net

I just bought and installed the factory trunk cargo net in my new 2010 Fusion. I'm a little dissappointed by the thing. It mounts so high in the trunk opening that it's more than a little obtrusive when trying to access the rest of the trunk. I had a similar net in '00 Malibu and loved it (that's why I bought one for the Fusion), but I'm thinking of tearing this one if I don't get used to it soon. Any thoughts?

Here's a picture. It was installed IAW the factory instructions (not particularly difficult) and extends down to the trunk floor. It is an "envelope" style net in that it is actually more like a hammock or hanging bag. You can see in the picture how it pretty much fills up the entire vertical opening of the trunk - handy for carrying small stuff, but awkward for stowing and removing larger items.

I also have the cargo net. When I need full access to the trunk I unhook one side and lay the net on the floor, no big deal. I actually leave it unhooked more than hooked because of golf clubs and push cart. I'm not sure what you mean by tearing this one, but there's a simple work around.

Yeah, I thought of just unhooking it as well... but then I had to ask myself why did I bother installing it just to leave it unhooked most of the time. My Malibu net provided the same service without getting in the way. I'll keep trying to get used to it....

 

BTW, I meant to say "tearing this one out...".

I just bought this, and not to be stupid, but how the hell do you mount it? I see nothing even behind the gray material to mount the hooks on ???

Wal-mart sells an aftermarket cargo net for $9.98. It works well in the FFH, is very durable, and doesn't extend above the lower trunk lip if you install it right. I attached the mounting knobs eleven (11) inches off the floor on each side of the trunk just inside the trunk opening on the hard plastic wall. I used the included screws for attachment (instead of adhesive) but I ground the screws off short and dull so they don't puncture anything behind the plastic. Test fit it before you do any work to your car. Works great.

 

No offense, but the Ford version looks ridiculous in that photo! Cheers...

Attach it when you need it. Problem solved. Had one in my Ford Flex, and did the same thing. Better to have it and not need it, then to need it and not have it!
