Tire Inflation indicator

I just bought 16'' rims to put winter tires on them and i wonder if the tire inflation indicator is just a light or there's annoying sounds that comes with it? Because i just wanna put normal valves....

Hi QuoVadis. :D There is a beep when the warning first initiates, then it is just the warning light.

 

Also, as an FYI, the "valves" are the same. The Factory TPMS system works with a sensor that is held to the inside of the wheels with a band. So there will be no difference in valves on your new wheels versus old wheels.

Hi QuoVadis. :D If you want the TPMS system to work, then you must install sensors on the new wheels. I am not really certain what you are asking about now, so I will give few answers and hope one of them covers what you are asking (see explanations below):

 

1 - What I was explaining in my previous post is that the "valves" have absolutely nothing to do with the TPMS system. The reason I mention this is because you stated that "i just wanna put normal valves....". The valves are no different on a car with a Factory TPMS system than on a car without TPMS. So put the term "valves" out of your head concerning the TPMS discussion.

 

2 - If you want the TPMS system to work properly with the new wheels, you must either purchase new sensors and bands to install on the new wheels, or switch your current sensors over to the new wheels (then you would just need to buy new bands). If these wheels are for winter use only, and you will be putting the factory wheels on for non-winter driving, your best bet would be to purchase new sensors and bands. Otherwise, you will have to switch the sensors from snow wheels to summer wheels and back every year. This will soon run you more money than just purchasing dedicated sensors for each set of wheels.

 

3 - If you do not put sensors on the new winter wheels, the TPMS system will not work, and the warning light will always be on.

I dont really care about the TPMS .... as long as other systems still works.

 

We had cars for years without this system.... i rahter look the tire pressure by myself and save money.

 

Anyway my AWD and all other safety driving system will not be affected by the TPMS disabled.

Yes, you can install the new wheels without the TPMS sensors and it will not affect anything else (AWD, ABS etc. etc.). You will just have the TPMS warning light on all of the time.

 

And on a side note, I agree with you. I have been checking my own tire pressure for many years without an electrical nanny to remind me. Those of us who perform proper maintenance on our own wind up having to pay for these systems to protect those who are not intelligent enough to maintain their cars properly.

BTW do you know if there's a Fuse that we can remove for the light , or the fuse is for the whole cluster itself?

fyi - I found that the light will not come on if the car has been sitting for longer than 8 hours, and is driven a short distance (15 min range) and turning the ignition back off. Otherwise, the light will come on, and stay on until the ignition is turned off, and left off, for longer than 8 hours. I sometimes can get to and from places here in Omaha w/o it coming on. Just thought I would throw that out there.
