Power outlets at the front of the center console

Recommended Posts

I see these power outlets at the front of the center console on my 2015 FFH, but nothing in the owners manual to explain them.
- I can see that D is for a "cigarette lighter" connector, I assume 12v. Right?
- C looks like USB connectors, useful for charging a phone. Agree?
- B - No idea.
- A - No idea.

The A inputs are for stereo audio input (red and white) and video input (yellow).  Video only works when the car is in park.

B is the SD connector where the SD card for the on board map resides.

C are standard USB ports that can be used to plug in a USB stick containing your audio collection.  They are also used for the very infrequent updates to Sync.

D is a 12 volt power supply that is limited to 15 amps.  It can NOT be used for a cigarette lighter.  It would probably catch fire.

Thanks!

- Where would the audio and video inputs come from?

- What is an "SD card for the on board map"?

- Could C also be used to charge a phone?

I used the audio inputs to connect an external XM radio that has a lifetime subscription. I never used the video input because when the car is in park I am not in it.

Does your car have navigation built-in? If it does you would get a letter from Ford once a year wanting to sell you an updated map for $150.00.  The map comes on an SD card that plugs into that socket.

Yes C can be used to charge a phone.  It is a standard USB port with a maximum current of 0.5 ampere so it won't be as fast as a modern charger.

Thanks again. I didn't use the free (trial) XM radio that came with the car,so I guess I won't be using those inputs. I don't have nav so have no use for the SD card. Probably use the USB for emergency use if my phone gets discharged on a long road trip, but that seems to be about it for all those connectors ?

Seems like that's where Ford skimped out on newer models.

Mine just came with the cigarette lighter port, and USB ports good for slow charging the phone, or data transfer (like Spotify, VLC, or Android Auto).

No SD card for the maps. It updates the maps via Sync 3 downloads.
