What's in the trunk?

Recommended Posts

Hello. I just purchased a 2016 Ford Fusion Hybrid SE. Opening the trunk and lifting the floorboard, I see a mobility kit and a nozzle. However,  I'm pretty certain other items were once in these cavities. I don't imagine it's anything indespensible, but any information is appreciated. Thanks!

That's all you get.  The other stuff is for fire extinguishers and emergency things that are required in foreign markets.

I ended up removing that black foam insert, buying a matching tire from ebay and now I have a spare tire. Cost was under $150. I don't like driving around without a spare.

Thank you heywardjr, that seems like the wisest move. Can't imagine ever using that epair kit to ruin tire when I could possibly drive on a spare and take  damaged tire to repair shop to make it right. Did you hunt for a jack and spare specific to Ford Fusion to fit in that trunk well? or does it matter? Thanks again.

There is a similar foam style holder that fits with a "donut" spare that people use from non-hybrid versions. Of course you could use any scissor style jack and figure a packaging accordingly. I just used one from my last car (tribeca) and store it wedged against the tire and wall.

The hybrids are sold with run flat tires but for the most part i think people dont opt for them as replacements because they are 3x the price!

There is a tremendous amount of information on this forum about putting a spare tire into your FFH if you just search a bit. Here are a couple:

If it may help,

Mine came just with the plastic fuel thingy...
No tire inflator.

This LED camping light (works on 3x AA batteries I believe), and is nice, bright, affordable and omnidirectional, fits exactly in this red circled cavity.
To the right of the red cavity, I have a fluorescent vest, some paper towels, and gloves.

I used a box cutter to cut the part colored in green, to fit a hammer, wrench and this portable pump.
I'm not at the location of my car now, but I think you can imagine how it looks.

Thanks all! Very grateful to have found such a supportive forum. I really love my Fusion and I'm guessing the more I learn about it, the more questions I may have. Grateful to each of you.

Spare tire info:  This thread addresses getting a compact spare (new parts) via Ford.  This can be expensive (> $500).  If going the salvage yard method and Fusion 2013+ compact spare will work.  Make sure you get the assembly box, wrench and jack!
