I would like to install a homelink remote in our 08 Fusion. We have the SYNC system, so we are unable to simply swap out the interior mirror for a Homelink one. I know the 08 Milan has this as a "late availablity" option with a Visor mount, but cost is in excess of 400.00 for one visor. Any one know if an MKZ visor will bolt into the Fusion, as I understand that this is a Lincoln option as well. Any help and input is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi delz. :D Visors are the same as far as size. mounting points etc, for the Fusion/Milan/MKZ. However, fabric colors/styles will most likely not match.

Also, I may be misunderstanding the direction of your question, but an MKZ visor will certainly not be any less expensive than a Milan visor.

In addition, I do not know either way, but is it as simple as just swapping out and wiring up the visor? In other words, are there additional electronics (besides what are already in the visor) that you would need to purchase and install?

Good luck. :beerchug:

I bought a used homelink visor off e-bay for $30 and removed the transceiver (from a maxima I think - didn't matter). I then removed the fabric from the driver's visor, used a dremel to cut out the plastic to fit the homelink transceiver, spliced the wires into the lighted vanity mirror and it works perfectly. However, since I couldn't figure out how to get the fabric off around the clip I had to cut the fabric and that looks terrible. I'm going to buy another visor and redo it using the old one for trial and error to get the fabric off without cutting it.

In other words - the wiring should be the same as any lighted visor mirror - all the electronics are inside the visor and it only needs 12V DC power leads.

The big key is whether the fabric matches - it might since Ford seems to be using the same colors across multiple vehicles now. But it's still $400. You can always buy a used visor and mount the unit somewhere else if you want to do it on the cheap.

I hope to locate a pair of visors, lt stone or black would match the black interior. Knowing that the MKZ/Zepher visors match up, it gives me a few more options in my junk yard search. As for the electronics, yes, it is simply plugging in the connector that supplies power to the lighted mirror. Homelink and Vanity Mirror are already pre-wired into the same circuit. I have done this mod many times in the past, with Windstars, F-150's, Expiditions and Montereys. Just was not sure what would swap into the Fusion. 400.00 for a new visor is simply overkill.

As for buying a set up and trying to re-install it inside the current visor, not what I want to do. I may re-locate one inside the console or the glove box, but that would only be as a last resort. Want the mirror hookup, but since that would eliminate the SYNC mic, i will focus on swapping in a visor.

Thank you for the information

Integrated remote control for garage door openers, mostly. There are other Homelink receivers for lights and things, though.

Ah.

Personally I carry a compact garage door remote in my pocket (if you leave the remote in your car and someone steals your car, they have access to you home), and I'm okay turning on the lights when I get in the house. ;)

FWIW....

I have been checking throughout the country for a pair of Light Stone/Light Grey visors with Homelink option, from a Zephyr or MKZ. Have had ZERO luck! Plenty of beige or tan visors, but no grey/stone ones. A new one for the 08 Fusion/Milan lists for 400.00+ from Ford. Based on what has been written here, I had my local dealer order a pair of visors for an 06 Zephyr, total cost was less than 200.00 for the pair. Easy swap, though pulling the connector from the headliner (taped over at factory) was a little difficult.

You are not able to swap out the factory mirror for a Homelink mirror if you have the factory SYNC.

If you do not have SYNC, a homelink mirror swap is the way to go, (25.00-50.00 from salvage yard, 125.00+ on ebay)

Happy Fourth of July to ALL!

I Have sucess in installing one into my 08 Fusion in the OEM spot. Your right on the fabric thing you will NOT find one to match you current ones. I would say the job was quite the chore. I started by buying a set of used ones on Ebay from a Zepher for the pair I got em for 20 bucks. I knew I was going to dismantle them and I knew also they sell diffrent trim kits in various colors. But I recieved them in the mail and guess what they were dirty so I emailed them to complain and they refunded my money FREEEEEE. But I started with the passenger side visor I wanted to practice on how to take them apart But I couldnt figure it out so i tore it apart and found out theres a pin holding it all together coming from the Poll side extending all the way into the clip that clips into the headliner. You will need to seperate the visor on the Pole side and thats where the seam is at. youll need to carefully cut the threads to open the visor to get to the pin. Thepin is had to get at youll need a needle nose plier to get at it and a panel puller to seperate the visor where the seam was tucked into. Once the pin is out the visor nearly falls apart. Once the pin is out the clip falls out. Then youll need to remove the lighted mirrior. Most screw are behind where the lights are. Once out youll be able to stretch the fabric back. You wont need to take it all the way off to get the homelink in . BTW you will not want to take it all the way off due to the fabric is tight and you wont want to strech it too much. Once apart youll need the MKZ one for template for the new visor. Once I took the passenger one apart I pretended that the Zepher drivers visor was mine and tried to get it apart without wreaking it. But I still messed up cause I didnt have the write up I have here lol. But I could of used the zepher plastic part with my fabric but I did not have luck getting the fabric off. Like I said the fabric is tight. once I took an exacto I cut the area for the homelink and snapped it in. pulled the fabric back streched it back and tucked it into the sleeve. I did NOT sew it back together. I have done MANY f150 and none were sewed together. Once back together and streched and tucked I felt around and found the holes for the homelink cut a lil hole with a exacto not even a hole just a small slice just enough for the rubber nubs to go threw. No material ever got cut out. Take the trim piece and snap it in. It is a bugger to get it off again so make sure you ready to do it. If and one want pictures of the finished result let me know I can post em.

I purchased a used MKZ driver's visor that had the homelink; removed and replaced the original visor, after finding the wire taped under the headliner. Once replaced, it was a matter of programming the homelink. Even the color matches my Fusion. The only thing missing is the little clip that's used to hold mail, I guess. I'm perfectly satisfied that this was an easy, appropriate answer to adding homelink.
