Anyone upgraded Sync2 to Sync3?

Recommended Posts

My 2015 FFH SE has Sync2. I'd love to have Sync3 to get Android Auto. Multiple companies offer a conversion kit, at wildly varying prices. Has anyone done this conversion? If so, (1) a link to the product, please, (2) what did the installation involve, and (3) and what was the result?

I would love to do this myself but don't have the funds at the moment.  The only advice I can offer is that the process is not unique to the FFH; any Ford with Sync 2 can be upgraded to Sync 3 by the same means.  So any info you can find out there on the Internet is valid, even for F150s, Mustangs, Lincolns and all that.  The only differences are the process to remove the dash trim and the configurations that need to be done in the software.  But those configurations are unique for every individual vehicle, not really model specific.

Yes, I also posted on the Ford Sync forum but haven't heard anything yet. I'm not a DIYer and would need to hire someone to install it, so I really want to know from someone who has done this what's involved, and that the kit they bought actually worked.

I just upgraded my 2013 FFH from Sync2 to Sync3 a few days ago if you have any questions.

What did you use to do that? A kit you bought? Etc...

Yes, I bought a kit from 4D Tech.  A bit expensive but it's less expensive then a new car.  I've had it a week so I'm trying to get used to all the nuances but like it so far.

Can you provide a link to it? Do you use it for Android Auto?

I bought mine at 15k from the dealer (second hand).
While waiting for the paperwork, I connected to the dealership network, and updated it over the air (wifi).
When I left, the salesman was in awe, that it had Android Auto.
It's really easy to do.
Either you connect it to your home network (or an available network with good connection), or you use your vin number on the FOrd Sync website and use a USB drive (or SD or microSD card with adaptor) and install the update via the USB.

The instructions are pretty simple, though the latest firmware flashed incompletely. I tried it out 3x on 2 different devices with the same issues.
Despite the update not fully completing, everything still seems to work fine.

The only thing missing is the XML file the device should write on the drive.
I'm guessing it has something to do with write privileges or something.
So the FW update can't verify my system update online.

What year is your FFH?

MeeLee has a 2019 so his input is completely irrelevant to this thread.  This thread is about updating older Fusions to the same thing that MeeLee already has.
