Farewell to the Fusion

Recommended Posts

The end of July 2020 was the last month that the fusion would be made at the Ford Hermosillo Plant, now the Bronco Sport will be made there to replace it. I think the Fusion had a good run but it mirrors the Taurus story, ford had a great product didn't update it enough to keep up with the competition and in the end lowered the amount of options and started de-contenting the Fusion something they did with the Taurus in the 99 model year. It is a shame since not everyone wants a SUV and even the Bronco Sport that replaces it in the plant doesn't have a hybrid option. This is odd as the Escape does and they are based off the same platform and have the same ecoboost engines. Farewell Fusion i'll be driving mine for the forseeable future and want to thank the workers at Hermosillo for building a solid quality built automobile.

Is there an Escape hybrid coming out soon?   That might work for us.  Right now we have a 2015 C-Max (made in Wayne, Mi)   and a 2010 Fusion Hybrid (made at Hermosillo). Both working perfectly.  I think people are going to be disappointed with hybrid trucks because the frontal area really cuts down on the MPG.

We find the hybrids are great for the COVID19 hot weather situation, we just pull into a parking lot at a restaurant, order meals and eat in the car, in park with the engine "on" with full air conditioning.  That's the advantage of an electric AC compressor and a good electric condenser fan, that doesn't have to do much engine cooling as well. The engine might come on for a minute every 10 minutes to charge, and I might lose a couple of miles of range for the event, but that's just a fraction of a gallon of gas to support full air conditioning comfort.  It's like having an electric vehicle, but with a generator to recharge the battery occasionally.

Yes the 2020 escape does have a hybrid option I think a member here bought one, It does have the bigger 2.5 Atkinson cycle engine and the battery is now liquid cooled so lets hope that doesn't cause any reliability problems. I also like how the second row seat can be moved forward or back which is a neat feature in small SUV. https://www.ford.com/suvs-crossovers/escape/models/escape-se-sport-hybrid/

Funny thing about you mentioning the covid pickup options I can't stand to see my mileage go down on the display so I will turn off the A/C and go through the drive thru on all battery power and just suffer being hot lol. I don't know if you have a IN N OUT burger over there but in California it can take over 30 minutes or more to get your food everyone loves that place.

I'm just the opposite. I drive/use my FFH the way I want and let the mpg be what it is (which is great, as we all know). Which means using AC whenever I want and also using "plain" cruise control, not the "eco" version that doesn't hold your speed constant. Now to venture into a much more controversial area :-). I'm in California and can't imagine why anyone ever goes to an In-and-Out much less waits 30 minutes there. I've tried it several times and always found their burgers to be just another wafer-thin cooked-to-death fast food burger.

I think my car might be different, I have a eco button near the ebrake switch that I keep engaged most of the time and you can feel the difference in regenerative braking its most aggressive and acceleration is slower. When my cruise control is engaged it seems to keep the speed constant, I was always hoping someone from this site would see my car on I-5 is a Silver 2018 Fusion and I always set the cruise at 55 so that way I don't have to fight other motorists or truckers, I get flipped off alot but to me its worth the mileage since 55mph is the minimum legal speed in California I don't see a problem with it. On IN N OUT I do prefer the thinner burgers but agree its overrated I don't go all the time as its a 30 minute drive for me just to the restaurant.
