SteamRollerOVD Report post Posted July 9, 2020 Hello, I was wondering what tires would work best overall for the 2016 Ford Fusion Hybrid. Is it still recommended to get the P225/50R17 97V Energy Saver A/S (OEM), or is there another tire type that works better in terms of usage and mileage? Tires are P225/50R 17 93V and they are the best for gas mileage. For me on my fourth set/ 254k miles they work best at 50 psi and I find them good all around tire. IMO. Waldo Report post Posted July 10, 2020 What do you mean by "usage". There are probably 20 different things to consider when choosing tires. What is the most important to you? Are you willing to give up snow traction for better mileage? Are you willing to give up braking distance for longer wear? Do you care about road noise, steering response, ride? We have been this way before, Looking at Tire Rack ECO Tire Test, Michelin Energy Savers were the best for FE and did well in all the other test. They aren't great in the snow, but I did just fine in them. People I know on the forums in snow country have a second set of snow tires to drive in the snow, they don't get very good gas mileage. Cobra348 Report post Posted July 12, 2020 I use two tire sets. The OEM tread in non-Winter months and Goodyear UltraGrip ICE snow tires in Winter. With OEM tread, ECO cruise mode and damn little hypermiling, I'm getting 40+ tank MPG, lifetime is 49.8 and climbing. I run the tires at 40 PSI cold ... not higher because I want a contact patch. ptjones Report post Posted July 12, 2020 I keep track of my mileage on Fuelly.com and with 252k miles, 78% HWY my average is 49.7 mpg, LT is 50.7, I haven't reset Trip 2 in three years and it's at 53.9 mpg and they all went up another .1 mpg last month. When I did my braking test I stop shorter distance at 50 psi than 35 psi where the tire was running on the sidewall with a larger contact. Handling works better at 50 psi than 35 psi, and the tires run cooler and last longer at 50 psi. I like the Michelin ES 93V and recommend cross rotating the tires every 5-10k mi. so tire changes the direction of rotation to minimize road noise.
