mwr Report post Posted October 7, 2019 I've never seen this before on my 2015 FFH. Earlier today, just after I turned the key to start, the center display showed "SYNC" in large letters and a smaller message below that said it was updating, along with a progress bar that moved from left to right. I was too slow with my phone to capture it, so can't remember exactly what the message said, but it definitely included "updating". After it finished, I drove away normally and didn't notice anything different. Has anyone else experienced this?
murphy Report post Posted October 7, 2019 That sounds a lot like what happens when the 12 volt battery gets too low and the car goes to sleep. If it goes to sleep you can't access it from the app. You get a massage that the car must be physically accessed to wake it up.

What do you mean by "the car must be physically accessed"?
ceilidhdog Report post Posted October 7, 2019 The same thing happened to me last week on my 2013 FFH SE. When I turned the car on, the touch screen was dark. Then SYNC and "updating" appeared. After a minute or so, the touch screen came on and everything was normal. I have a new 12v battery, so that isn't the issue. I just assumed SYNC was updating itself, as the message said. But what seems strange is that I've never noticed that happening in the five years I've had the car. Also, I'm wondering where the update came from and how it got to the car. murphy Report post Posted October 7, 2019 Sorry, what I said is only available on an Energi. I don't think a 2015 has a data modem so the only place I am aware of to do an update is from a USB memory stick after downloading with a computer. My 2013 Energi says it is performing scheduled maintenance when the 12 volt battery gets low.
Timewellspent Report post Posted October 7, 2019 I was getting this message for awhile and thought nothing of it until it picked up in frequency and then I got the Black Screen of Death. APIM failure. Hope that isn't your issue.
Timewellspent Report post Posted October 7, 2019 I should add that mine wasn't updating, but said "Sync Performing Scheduled Maintenance" and then had a progress bar below like you described. Like this:Ā

aschulz261 Report post Posted October 8, 2019 I thought this was discussed several years ago. Sync is not updating. It has crashed and is rebuilding itself. It just sounds much nicer when it says it is performing scheduled maintenance.
Waldo Report post Posted October 8, 2019 Back in the old days when Sync 2 (MFT) first came out, this was a regular occurrence. Some people would see it 2-3 times a day. But yes, it is a sign that the system has crashed. 1 markn455 reacted to this
